edo zombie bodies are dead bodies madara already said you can't become a jin unless your alive.(he's dead(can't use "living") proof). obito controlled both the dead jins and their bijuu thru rinnegan.(as seen when naruto was inside the 4 tails) kabuto wasn't needed. all he did was make it easier on obito's chakra levels.

Since he didn't do it in the manga and instead went to Kabuto instead, he can't do it unless he has prep time before the match, which he doesn't.
