Why aren't they effectected by it? At first I thought oh because they are dead so it doesn't work. Then I though wait a darn second Hitachi got effected by both logo and later sasukes sharingan genjutsu. Both are visual genjutsu that worked on Edos so it the most powerful genjutsu should work no problem. My only explanation is that because their hosts bodies are zetsu they aren't effected because neither spiral nor Bz are effected. Also i think bee and kabuto aren't effected because the light dudnt directly contact their eyes. Some people think bee got caught in it but it didn't look like that seemed more like he was trying to figure out what's going on. Lastly if obito wakes up he wont be effected since he's half zetsu.

Itachi as an edo was affected by genjutsu meanwhile the Edo Kages were not.

So edos are susceptible to genjutsu. So why not the Edo Kages?

I honestly don't have an answer to that. I thought it maybe had something to do with zetsu being their bodies, but zetsu were also affected by genjutsu.

I'm at a loss

Nah. If it were the Zetsus, Orochimaru wouldn't be affected either. I'd say the same as others. Hagoromo stated the genjutsu and tree feed off the chakras and life forces of the people it effects in order to work and that was shown with everyone being spun up and attached to it. This was also foreshadowed by Madara stating he required a living body to become the Juubi's jinchuriki, most likely due to the Shinju and the mass amount of senjutsu it's made up of. The edo's are dead, both they and their hosts, thus the jutsu, which is powered by all life and nature rather than just a yin based doujutsu shouldn't have an effect on them.

I think the difference is that the genjutsu that Itachi used on himself was programmed to make him good. As a result, he was able to control his body and be 'good'. But the IT does not have programming abilities, so the edo tensei are able to withstand it.
