Edition 1 of: Is it Overrated or Underrated? Naruto.

I made a thread, say, idk, a couple months ago asking if Naruto is overrated or underrated. I thought I'd make that thread again and also making it a mini 'series' asking for your guys' opinions on different anime, such as Bleach, One Piece, etc... However, in today's thread, I'm asking you guys what you think about Naruto? Is it overrated, underrated, or neither?

I personally believe it's a bit overrated, to be honest. When I was first watching the show, I felt as if it was the greatest show ever. Then, I started watching some shorter, much better (my opinion) anime. So, what do you guys think?

Well Naruto has the advantage of being the first real anime I got into (despite DBZ but that was to a less extent). Maybe if you compare it to some others it wouldn't look so great in comparison. I still think it's a solid series but messes up here and there. I'd go with overrated but only because it's rated so high (and because it's so popular) in the first place. Took a chunk of my child hood though, really did!

Neither. It's just too popular, so it has a lot of "fans" that give it a bad rep. :|

And on the other hand there are people that only saw a few episodes on Toonami and think they have the right to judge the series. :sy: At least learn about it ffs.

It really depends on who and where.

On one hand, you have sites with a lot of Naruto fans (like this one, obviously) who would think that it's the greatest thing ever created. Having seen a lot of other series, I can definitely say that Naruto is far from the godliest thing I've watched, and even in terms of action Shounens it's nowhere near the best. Unfortunately, you have some of those rabid fans who think Naruto's the greatest but despise, say, One Piece for example, and the worst part is that in many cases they have a one-sided bias about Naruto as their own favorite series without any knowledge of others and that's awful.

However, I've also seen many sites with people who despise Naruto and think it's the worst thing ever created. I also have to disagree with this, as there are many series I've encountered that are worse objectively and subjectively. Naruto's far from perfect, but it seems to be the case that the anime hipsters think that Naruto is terrible to fit with their "in" crowd and those tend to be the type who despise mainstream series altogether.

I don't think it's very much of either. It's pretty entertaining and suspenseful, so a lot of people are gonna watch it. But maybe the Shippuden is a little overrated and the original is underrated.

I think it's overrated. But it's still my favorite series despite my watch of other "better" manga/anime.
