"For a woman whose name comes from someone so free to open its mouth and let its voice be heard. the Irony isn't lost on me that I often don't have a voice of my own. Never have really, even from childhood. It's the quiet ones that always seem to be in the background. Wondering what to do. How to fit in. Mind always racing. Why speak when all you can hear is your own voice in your head. There's a saying, 'Fake it, 'til you make it'. Lately I think I've made it. Until the voice creeps back into my head. This is my life, and this is what's happens every single night. Tossing and turning through my own history. Until the sun rises in the present and I wake up, and, without fail... I've been called a hero longer than I was a rather failed villain. So why is it that when I do my job, and Songbird actually gets the chance to chalk one up in the win column... I only see Mimi. How many times can I keep beating myself up? Past is the past Melissa, you're not the follower, you lead. You've stood up to the worst madmen on the earth, and watched them lose control and crumble. So why do I always feel like I'm falling?"

Uchiha

Looks:
Songbird is an attractive woman with some very strong features which single her out as one with a very individualistic appearance. Her hair is pure white with bright red streaks on either side at the front of her head forming a long red frame around her very feminine but strong jawline (The streaks are often mistaken for being pink in some light), her reaches down to her lower spine currently. Her lips are very prominent without being overpowering to the rest of her features or appearing as unnatural compared to the rest of her facial features. Her eyes glisten in a sharp emerald green piercing to look at, the green of her eyes contrasting with the hard red which drops down before them from her hair, a contrast which is soon removed however as her eyes take on the famed blood red sharingan of her clan (once activated). At 5'5" she appears as a very petite, fragile and harmless girl, a misinterpretation that is often backed up by her relatively slim build.
Melissa's outfit consists of a tight fitting one piece suit mainly formed of a medium blue tone all over, among the blue is a sharp white pattern which runs down the front of her torso. The white pattern then takes over as the main color as it extends down her legs forming what seem like boots over her feet and reaching to her thighs. The white pattern appears in the shape of a bird on her chest symbolic of the nickname which she is mostly known by 'Songbird'. Gold plates are added to her wrists, neck and shoulders to add a glimmering accessory to the otherwise plain attire.

Personality:
Melissa is a very intelligent girl, her intelligence and organisation skills are possibly her greatest traits. Her childhood has made her relatively quiet and she is not one to shout out her opinions freely unless she truly believes the time to be right, although quiet Melissa is fairly easy going and is easy to talk to should she feel comfortable speaking with the person. Able to switch her killing intent on at any time Melissa is not so much quick tempered but rather extremely protective of things close to her, this trait came from her grueling training with Oraan and his insistence that she become able to kill anyone should it be necessary with no remorse. Although she has removed it mostly there are times in her life where Melissa puts up a guard and becomes extremely difficult to reason with or talk too, the social troubles which were strong in her youth can still be seen present in her in certain situations and although she has tried to forget her past still haunts her every night and she often wakes from her slumber screaming as the nightmares roll around her head. Has a strange relationship with Moonstone (Karla Sofen) as the two constantly try to out do each other acting as though they despise each other with every pore of their bodies; this makes them fierce rivals, however, the two are in some ways the others best friend which has lead to Melissa being able to speak freely with Karla when she is generally a shy and reserved girl.

Background Info.

History:
Melissa Uchiha, born in a prison cell in Konohagakure, had her life start off in an incredibly tough fashion. Taken from her mother at birth and sent to live alone with her father, she spent the first few years of her childhood being looked after by a different person every week. Hired babysitters came in droves to make up for the time and love her father never showed her. Her father was never a real part of her childhood, choosing instead to take on missions without regard for his daughter, or simply stay and nurse his outrageous drinking habit. The ever changing flurry of people that entered her life and disappeared just as quickly as they had come left her unable to form bonds or create friendships. All Melissa could do was take things as they came, not allowing anyone to get close for fear that they would disappear shortly after.

It became ever too familiar to her; the sight of her father falling through the door of their family home hours after the babysitter had left. The stench of alcohol emanating from every pore of his being. The liquor that ran through his mind made him unable to care of his daughter at all and, sometimes, it even went as far as him hurting his own child. Growing up in such a home, Melissa built walls in her mind. Walls that didn't allow her to speak to others or to even leave her home. She spent most of her time staring out into the skies, at the birds that flew like silhouettes across the light of the sun, singing their peaceful songs. These songs became like beacons of hope to her when she needed them most.

When Melissa was six years old her father was pronounced dead in a hospital near her home. She was not told of the cause, or of any of the finer details, at her young age at risk of upsetting her, but she knew even then, in her young and innocent mind, that the booze that he had been pumping into his bloodstream throughout her whole life was the cause. Even without any knowledge of life or the dangers of drinking; she knew that the look she saw on her father’s face every night before bed was not the look of a healthy man, and it was not the look that she associated with caring. There were times when she had witnessed such caring: in autumn he would join her outside their home and they would dance on the grass as the leaves fell from the trees around them. The look in his eyes at these times was pure and filled with what she knew was love.

After the death of her father; Melissa was moved into a foster home until her mother’s release from prison six months later. Learning the news of her former lover’s death, Melissa's mother was keen to build a relationship with her daughter and did not want to leave her in the home. Collecting Melissa from the home, her mother took Melissa into Iwagakure where they started a new life together. During her time with her mother, Melissa went to ninja school and eventually began to drop the guard which she had built to protect herself from her father. Melissa's mother taught her the feeling of love once more, but never revealed to Melissa why it was that she was in prison in the first place, constantly attempting to avoid the subject when it was bought up. The more her mother dismissed the subject however; the more Melissa's curiosity grew.
Once she had finished her basic school at the age of 14, Melissa - now able to talk to people and accept them into her life (to a certain extent, she is still shy and rather reserved/ quiet) without the fear of them leaving her alone and distraught like she had known previously - left the village with the consent of her mother. She told her mother that she wanted to leave to learn about the world and to bring herself to bigger things, masking her true motives behind leaving.

After spending a few months in the outside world alone, searching for the truth behind her mother’s imprisonment, Melissa found herself back in the village of her birth. In order to survive in the world; Melissa developed a hard edge to her personality, referring to herself as "Mimi." Delving further into the case, Melissa discovered that her mother had volunteered to be imprisoned after a situation that seemed to revolve around a ninja named Zemo Uchiha. Finding out from villagers and some books that this man was highly feared by many in the ninja world, as a name synonymous with crime and bounty hunting, this would be her next venture.
Melissa eventually found work as a bounty hunter, adopting the name ‘Screaming Mimi’, and joining an independent group of female bounty hunters known as 'The Thunderbolts', after they had promised to share what they knew about the man she was desperate to find. The leader of whom was a woman named 'Moonstone', the two's conflicting beliefs on leadership and business often caused arguments between the pair, however, spending so much time together they began to learn to tolerate one another eventually leading to them becoming both fierce rivals and best friends.

Whilst in the group; Mimi began to enjoy the life of a bounty hunter and 'The Thunderbolts' became renowned for their colorful personalities and hunting skills, but the rest of the world still refused to take them seriously and denied them the opportunity to make the amount of money their male counterparts made. Instead, the group agreed to earn a secondary income by committing a huge robbery. The mission failed, however, due to a ninja native from the village, known as 'Quasar', and 'The Thunderbolts' were tried and jailed for their misdeeds. In prison, Melissa began to question her mission as she sat in her mother’s shoes. The dry food she was served and the cold, sleepless nights all alone left her with nothing but her own thoughts. No matter how much she tried to forget about the man, however, she could not, and after 6 months in prison and trapped through her sixteenth birthday, Melissa returned to her original plan and set off once again to find the man. After sharing their time in prison Melissa and 'Moonstone' became closer than they were before and before they parted ways they made a pact that they would find each other again once both had completed their respective tasks, once re-united the pair would start a fresh new life free of hate and revenge ridden thoughts.

After hunting alone for a short time, Melissa built up a reputation for herself and was contacted by 'Zemo' (the man she had been searching for) to join his 'Masters of Evil', a group of rogue ninja which walked the ninja world looking for anyway possible to make money or kill for food. Needing to gain his trust before she tried to extract information Mimi joined the group with a smile on her face and was given her first real assignment. Her first assignment was to help bust a female member of the group out of prison (the same prison which Melissa herself had been held in for some time before). Melissa was defeated in the subsequent battle with the guards and was forced to leave without the woman that she had been ordered to free. Following the failure of her first real assignment Zemo ejected her from the group and they set off without her.

Changing tact once more Melissa underwent a complete image transformation, growing out her usually dark hair and dying it with a pure white, among the white she added bright red streaks to her fringe which grew to frame her face. Melissa used the birds from her childhood as motivation for her new image; the white feathers which were wrapped with the bright red in the tail had always drawn her eye when she was a child, as well as the hair Melissa had a new outfit made with a white bird crest covering her chest, the bird being symbolic of her wanting to be free from hers and her mothers pasts. Constantly searching for the answers, was not a life that she wanted to live forever. With her new look and heightened sense of determination Melissa adopted the identity of Songbird and eventually managed to get herself accepted into the Masters of Evil once more. This time she was made to win the world's trust by performing a series of heroic acts in public, whilst she did this Zemo secretly plotted world conquest. Melissa grew to love the heroic role, having people screaming for her and cheering as she approached was a feeling like no other that she had experienced before. Melissa began to truly grow into her own and was able to further break down her protective emotional wall from childhood. During this time Melissa developed as a person, finding a new side to her personality. She found herself reveling in the attention that she received from the people in the various villages, it was this constant attention and the barrages of compliments that led to Melissa suddenly gaining high levels of self-confidence, soemthing which she had lacked severely beforehand. Ultimately, Songbird gained enough trust from Zemo that she took the opportunity to confront Zemo about her mother. Zemo explained to Melissa that her mother was just a passer by in the wrong place at the wrong time during one of his own failed assignments. In the heat of the moment he had taken her hostage and forced her to sit in prison in his place, he swapped clothes with the woman and she was taken into custody instead of him. Zemo had threatened that unless she took the jail sentence in his place then he would kill her unborn child and her along with it. Learning the news of her mothers past Melissa smiled to herself, she owed her mother so much even before she was born. Growing up in such pain and misery Melissa was unaware that she was a child of pure love the whole time, the undying love that her mother had shown to her comforted Melissa greatly. Melissa subsequently killed Zemo and returned to Iwagakure to see her mother again after the years they had spent apart.

When Melissa returned to Iwagakure and was reunited with her mother she decided to continue training to develop her skills and protect her mother. She had grown a lot as a fighter in the time she spent away and upon her return she attracted the attention of one of the villages higher ups. The man had offered to teach her everything he knew and to take her on as his personal student. Unable to contain her excitement at the prospect of being trained by such a well respected ninja Songbird graciously accepted his offer and the two began training together shortly after Melissa's seventeenth birthday. Melissa eventually came to know the man as 'Oraan'.

As she settled into her training routines Songbird began to develop new habits in battle and could feel herself becoming a stronger fighter everyday. She eventually became known throughout Iwagakure, not only for her presence in the tavern but also for her fighting potential. After years of training and missions with her new squad (led by her sensei), Melissa even began a romantic relationship with a man in her village, something which she had never really had before. Not too long after her relationship began Melissa received harrowing news. The news of her mothers death hit her hard, she had gone so long without feeling pain or anger of this kind that it affected her badly and she rebuilt the mental walls from her childhood in an attempt to block out the opinions and offerings of comfort from her peers. Melissa's struggles returned and she went missing from the village for a few months with her lover whom at this time was the only one she would speak too.

In the months that passed Melissa and her boyfriend celebrated her 20th birthday with a return to the village, upon returning Melissa apologised to her teammates and started to return to the person she was before the news of her mothers death had hit her. Again months passed in this same routine, until one day Iwagakure was attacked by a group of rogues and she was sent out onto the front lines, Melissa dealt with the situation very well and found herself coping very well in battle, quite possibly better than she ever had before. During their time away Melissa's boyfriend had taught her how to deal with death better and she kept his words in her mind at all times as she protected her village and watched her comrades fall around her. The day of bloodshed passed and Melissa stood tall with her friends in the knowledge that the village was safe for another day. Returning inside she felt something was wrong, passing her home she noticed the lack of light from inside, the eery silence which nestled itself in amongst the darkness made her feel uncomfortable in her own home and she knew something was serious had happened when she heard the sound of crumpled paper beneath her foot. Reaching down and feeling around with her fingers she grabbed the note and tucked it into her top before running back out into the street and sitting beneath a lamppost to read her message.

"Dearest Melissa,
I am sorry to have to do this to you after such a hard time in your life but I leave you this message as my final goodbye. My journey in this village has come to an end and there is business elsewhere which I must attend too, my family has come calling during the bloodshed which has just passed and I was required to leave to find them immediately. I am so sorry that it has to be like this which you find out this news. If I could have been there with you in person then please know that I'd be holding you in my arms through this time, please understand that this comes as hard to me as I'm sure it will to you, just keep in mind the words which helped you escape the news of your mother, hopefully those words will help you here too."

As Melissa read the note her eyes began to tear up uncontrollably as all the hardship which she had fought through up to this point in her life all rushed through her brain like someone had driven a needle straight through her heart. Her hands shook uncontrollably as she attempted to read on, with the water in her eyes making the task ahead impossible she dropped the note to the side unfinished and buried her head in her knees as she fought off the free flowing tears. She tried desperately to cling to the words of hope which she held so dearly, with every ounce of life in her body she made the words echo through her every thought until she could read on...

"Know this Melissa, these past few years have been the greatest of my existence, without you my life will be incomplete and will surely never be complete again. Please, for me. Do not let this change you or stop you from being happy, better than anyone I know how your mind works, happiness is the thing you hold dearest to you. The memory of your smile when the smallest of wonders which the world offers appear to you will prove to be my guiding light in whats left of my life. Whenever I feel down I will remember how it made me feel to see the joy in your eyes as the sun burst through the clouds above glistening like a million diamonds in those eyes of yours, those eyes which I hope someone will learn to love as much as I do. Please Melissa, honor my final wish, the wish that you remove me from your world and move on with your blessed existence. Do not let your feelings for me hold you back from doing the things which we all know you are destined to do. Do not let one foolish boy ruin a perfect life.

Goodbye, my love."

At the conclusion of the note Melissa stares up into the stars as her lips tremble, fighting back the inevitable flood of tears to come. Before she herself can begin to cry the world begins to cry for her, as the tears of the sky wet her face she releases the tears of her heart. The water which drips from her eyes is instantly smothered up by the rain and her head is cleared of any bad thoughts as the cooling rain calms her like a sewing kit gifted to her from the heavens to mend her shattered heart. Drained and calmed significantly Songbird picks herself up and walks toward the village gates, the note becoming drenched and smudged by the rain as she leaves it behind on the hard rocky ground of her once home.

Unable to live in a place which has bought her so much heartache Melissa leaves Iwagakure, heading for Kirigakure. The waters from above had calmed her and had helped her to wash the sadness from her mind, water which is ever present in Kirigakure. Understanding the powers of water and the trickling sounds which can calm the brain so easily Melissa joins Kirigakure and lives her life only to honor her first loves departing wish. Settling down in Kirigakure Melissa begins to love the place as much if not more than she had loved her time in Iwagakure, the people welcome her so freely that she is soon able to forget the heartache which had made her leave her village before. Closing in on her former self Melissa does her best to search for eternal happiness. This search is helped greatly by the discovery of her long term friend Moonstones presence in Kirigakure. After completing the goals which she had set herself in the world she too had turned to Kirigakure for a home, and much like Melissa she had also grown to love the place. Renewing their friendship as well as their rivalry the two now work together in their new home constantly trying to best one another in any missions or tasks that they are set, the constant competition with Karla provides Melissa with a near perfect escape from her past, although the nightmares never stop the days eventually become clear of any negativity.

Back again, neh? :p
I've read the story again and I think it's is a major step up from the first one ^^ The mother dies rather suddenly, but such is life. I actually like how you don't make the mother's death 'dramatic'. Many do that every time someone dies in their story, but you can't always hold your loved one in your arms and hear their final words. Good work on that (Y)
The childhood arc got better. I like how she toughens up and builds her mental walls, but is later softened when her mother gets out of prison and starts to take care of her. Realistic.
I like how you depict her minor dependency issues and don't just brush her traumatic childhood away. Abuse and neglect has consequences, and you respect that. Great job on that.
Your metaphors are, at some points, a bit much. Experiment, but don't force yourself to paint everything azul and crimson instead of blue and red.
You shouldn't force yourself to use complicated terms, it comes off as being slightly ostentatious :)p) Stick with a vocabulary you can be comfortable with. Again; experiment, but don't force yourself. Furthermore, as much as I hate to say it, your grammar isn't top of the line. Try reading your story out loud. It helps ^^ In regards to grammar; I've 'checked' the first 1000 words of your story and polished the grammar. I know I might come off as being arrogant, but check it out anyway.

Once she had finished her basic school at the age of 14, Melissa - now able to talk to people and accept them into her life without the fear of them leaving her alone and distraught like she had known previously - left the village with the consent of her mother.

Melissa eventually found work as a bounty hunter, adopting the name ‘Screaming Mimi’, and joining an independent group of female bounty hunters known as 'The Grapplers', after they had promised to share what they knew about the man she was desperate to find.

Whilst in the group; Mimi began to enjoy the life of a bounty hunter and 'The Grapplers' became renowned for their colorful personalities and hunting skills, but the rest of the world still refused to take them seriously and denied them the opportunity to make the amount of money their male counterparts made. Instead, the group agreed to earn a secondary income by committing a huge robbery. The mission failed, however, due to a ninja native from the village, known as 'Quasar', and the Grapplers were tried and jailed for their misdeeds.

Thanks, mind if I use your part? I'll go through the rest tomorrow and see what I can do. I will admit I just wrote this all in one and didn't proof read before I posted.

Why do you use those damn pokemon symbols for the elements. I love everything except that, it just keeps poking my eyes. @_@
