Currently it takes earth 24 hours for a full spin. In the future it'll take earth 45 days for a full spin.

Meaning a month and a half of day then a month and a half of night.

That's crazy

it's a fact, but the numbers are minimal, we're talking about centimeters / year, which is nothing in space-space(as in astrological space)
actually a day is a bit less than 24 hours, 23hrs and 56 mins, that's why we have leap years (when february is not 28, but 29 days long).
however, you should not worry about this, the estimations that they've made will occur in billions or trillions of years, I doubt that humanity will not exterminate itself until that.
also, it's not the rotation getting slower, but we're getting farther away from the sun, as I've mentioned above, a few centimeters a year, somewhere around 10 I believe.

"However", says Mardling, "it's such a ridiculously long time away that by then the Sun will have become a red giant."

Earth will be gone by then anyway.

Funny, I was just reading about the leap second a while ago.

The earth will be already consumed by the expanding sun before the moon escapes earths gravity. A huge asteorid impact however could potentially slow down the earths rotation if the angle is right.

Not till at least hundreds of millions of years. The article said that 650 million years ago, the day was only 3 hours shorter. It also said that by then, the sun will be a red giant, meaning the Earth would be consumed in it, if not then uninhabitable, at the least.

the latest research done on the subject (will the earth survive our sun becoming a red giant) states that the earth will indeed survive it, however nothing on earth will stand even a remote chance of survival.

the sun will get so close to the earth that the crust of the planet will melt and the entire planet will actually shrink, we are talking no mountains no, oceans no nothing, the entire surface will melt and eventually after the sun "detracts" the crust will harden again making the earth crust smooth.

A month and a half or day sucks but that also gives us a month and a half of night no? ^^

By then we'll be a multi galactic species with a large possibility of having the technology to save our home planet from the dangers of the sun and replicate the 24 hour conditions of the planet somewhere else.

in 4 million years if I got the information right, the sun will run out of helium (not sure if it's the right name), a great sun wave will exterminate everything alive on earth, assuming their will be something alive at this time

also : it is practically a miracle that earth have been kept alive for all this time, with all these asteroids and shit all around, assuming the state all of the other planets around us are in, makes you think

you did not get the information right, it's around 6 billion years, not 4 million.
