I take a seat on a nearby boulder.

As I do so I pick up a loose piece of earth next to it. I swap it from hand to hand as I begin to speak.

"Well Senpai, Earth Release is is one of the basic elemental nature transformation techniques and allow the user to manipulate the surrounding earth for offensive and defensive purposes or create it; be it dirt, mud, or rock."

Hmm, now how does this nature act..
I stare at the earth clump in my hands searching for ideas. All I saw was a clump of boring old earth.. what did he mean how it acted?

"Umm, well Earth acts in a way that is not obvious to us. It looks boring on the outside, but really it has the potential to be so much more. Earth can be manipulated into all shapes, weights and feelings. It can be a small clump of earth as soft as clay and as light as a feather.. or as large as tree, as hard as a shield and as heavy as a fat guy after Christmas Dinner. It can also move to the users will. It can travel through the ground as slow as their hearts desire or as fast as their hearts beat when fleeing an area in fright. It can travel through the ground for transportation purposes or for offensive and defensive purposes. Earth Release is really a versatile element, although it doesn't seem that way"

I finish staring at the earth clump still in my hand. I begin to juggle it as I ponder over the next question.

"Hmm, well Senpai, Earth has some very beneficial and not so beneficial relationships with other elements."

I try to break the clump of earth in half. It stays firmly in one piece.​

• Water- Earth is strong against water because earth naturally contains water or absorbs water to the point when it becomes muddy then dries up.
• Rain- Rain can be considered the same as normal water.
• Ice-Earth shatters it
• Dark Release- Dark Release has a difficult time absorbing the Earth itself.
• Scorch- Earth can't both be burned or dehydrated away by the high temperatures of Scorch release.
• Steam-Earth defenses or attacks are too dense for the steam to have any real impact.

I start to rub the earth clump.. causing it to crumble.

"Earth is weak against the following"

• Lava-Earth can be melted way with a sufficiently high Lava technique.
• Wood- Wood can infiltrate and break Earth apart.
• Crystal-Crystal is harder and denser than Earth, overcoming it.
• Storm-While Water is weak to Earth, the addition of lightning makes it able to overcome Earth Techniques.
• Steel -The strong density of Steel makes it quite strong against Earth
• Boil-Earth as the corrosive mist melts it away.
• Blast-Earth can't contain the explosions and is weak against them.
• Sand-It has been shown that Sand can be used to grind earth or to become dense enough to compete with even the hardest rocks.
• Shikotsumyaku

"Earth is also known for its relationships with fire and water forming the famous kekkei genkai: Wood Release and Lava Release. It is also known for its relationship with fire and wind in creating the famed kekkei tōta: Dust Release.
Furthermore, it appears to have a relationship with Explosion Release chakra as it can be infused into clay using the the Iwagakure Kinjutsu to form explosive clay."

Excellent. Now I'm going to explain how this training is going to progress

Alright, now the way I train is a little differently than most sensei. I use Lili-Chwan and Scorp's method of training which divides the techniques of an element into four categories. Each category will have a specific number of techniques based on the similarities between the techniques, regardless of rank. I will then teach you the basic concepts of the method and test you on your knowledge and then we will continue alright?

These are the four methods in this element. From this point on here is what we're going to be doing.

(1) I will give you the method and explain to you, in depth, what the method entails and then allow for any questions of clarrification

(2) I will give you bullet points of words/phrases that I will ask you to define/explain that will show me if you understand this method if I am satisfied with your explanations, we will continue. If not I will have you tweak them.

(3) I will then post all the jutsu within the category with full explinations and then you will have to do the following
~Explain the Advantages of the Method
~Explain the Disadvantages of the Method
~Discuss Strategies you could use with jutsu from this method
If I'm satisfied with these three aspects, we will continue and repeat the cycle from the top.

Sure sounds good Senpai, I will manage. However, I do have a question for you.
Before I get to it, I must tell you two things.
One, I noticed that this training will be a lot of work.
And
Two, I am addicted to cake.

So this brings me to the question, will there be intervals between the training when I can have a break and get some cake? If I don't get this cake for a certain amount of time, I start getting withdrawal symptoms which negatively effects my performance and makes me complain more. To make matters worse, the harder I work, the sooner the desire for cake arises. Therefore, because this training is a lot harder then what I am use to, these cake breaks would need to be regular.

If you don't allow these cake breaks.. well look forward to complaining and the chance that a technique I perform goes of course and well.. hits you.

2) When annoyed I will torture you until you wish for death
3) I will deny you death and relish in your torture, probably by eating cake in front of you and/or destroying it

No complaining is allowed under any circumstance, you do as I say and if I'm pleased I may allow for a cake break as a treat, not as an obligation or requirement. Also, since I'm the one who's mastered the element and knows how it works as well as having a fair variety of other skills. If you mess up a technique and it comes my way I'm not the one who needs to worry about getting hit...or impaled, stabbed, crushed, psychologically tortured, physically dismembered, taken to Canible Emperor's layer and eaten...if you understand where this is going.

Ah what the heck? Cake Breaks are a treat ? He seems like the mean type who wont give out many 'treats' at all. And what is this crazy punishment that I will receive if I complain ? You know what I am not even worried, as if I did get to the complaining stage where I had annoyed him so much that he couldn't deal with me anymore, I would be pretty near dead anyway. I'd probably die before he could get to stage 3 of my punishment. Or he would be dead before then .. like the last Senpai who deprived me of cake.
My hallucinations seemed so real, my Senpai really did look like a nice slice of chocolate cake. . . he even tasted like one. I don't really want to eat a second Senpai.. but I guess I wont be able to help myself if I begin hallucinating again. I suppose my Senpai may find out the hard way why you don't deprive L of cake. I hope for his sake, that he gives me these 'treats' frequently.

But for now, I better just behave and go along with my Senpai's way of doing things... for now.

If you're ready god damn it, we can start with the first method of training.

Method 1: Own Created

Alrighty the first method we'll be discussing is 'Own Created'. The most basic way I can explain this would be earth techniques that you produce from your body. The only thing that is used is your doton chakra to create earth from your body directly as opposed to manipulating existing earth. Now earth is a very versitile element meaning there will be several differing ways to manipulate and utilize the earth techniques. Even the techniques within the same method family are unique in many ways, the exceptions being-in this case-that all of these technqiues are self created. In order to better explain how the chakra usage would be for techniques of this method I would have to explain a few concepts first.

(1) Full Body Chakra Release techniques: This is essentially where you release chakra from every chakra point in your body to create a full body affect. Generally armor based techniques or techniques that completely coat your body for protective measures or other physical enhancement purposes are techniques that utilize this. A quick tangent onto the subject of genjutsu. I won't expand further on it as it would get too deep especially due to my genjutsu addiction. Full body release methods are one of the methods used to release genjutsu. Reason is, the surge of chakra from every pore in your body is releasing chakra, which would force out the foreign chakra in your brain that causes the genjutsu. However it is essential you pay attention to rank, because the level of genjutsu you can release is dependant on the rank of technique (example: B-ranked full body chakra release techniques of elements release C-rank and below A-rank releases B-rank and below. You need 1 rank higher than the genjutsu you're trying to disolve)

(2) Isolated Area Chakra Release: To put it simply, same concept as th full body only this time you're isolating the area and releasing chakra in a specific area instead of every part of your body.

(3) Projectiles: Techniques where you create a small projectile based object (an object that is launched) with a source from one part of the body and then launch it at your opponents. Generally exhaled or spat from the mouth.

Now that in mind, when you're doing techniques in this method, you take note to this. You're channeling your Doton chakra for whatever specific entity the technique entails and then the doton chakra manifests physically into the earth substance you're trying to create.

I had to ponder over this for a moment.

"Well Senpai, to create a knife, sword or general weapon from Doton you have the option of doing so by using either your doton chakra or pre-existing earth."

"From Pre-existing Earth the process of forming a general weapon is as followed.
For me personally, if I were to form a weapon from pre-existing earth, this chosen piece of earth would be in the form of a rock, piece of clay, clump of earth ~ Basically earth in the form where I could hold it in my hand(s). This is due to the fact that it will be easier for me to transport my doton chakra into and manipulate the earth's shape if I was physically able to hold the whole thing."

"Once I have my chosen form of earth in my hand(s) I will gather my Doton chakra in my hand(s) where I hold the material. When I have gathered enough chakra I will then begin sending the chakra into the piece of earth from my hand(s). I will let my Doton chakra circulate the rock for a moment to ensure that it is well infused with my Doton chakra, before using shape manipulation to form the weapon I want. I will focus on forming the basic structure of my desired weapon first.. I will then add the smaller details afterwards.. such as sharpening the sword or adding a handle for a shield. If I there is not enough earth to form the weapon I want, I will inject more doton chakra into the earth to increase its size to help me form the shape and size for the weapon that I want. "

Well that is what I would do anyway. Maybe Senpai had an alternative way.. Or perhaps some tips to improve my way..

"As for forming the weapon without pre-existing earth, I would simply gather my doton chakra up, most likely in my hands as I will have to hold the weapon anyway. When I have gathered enough chakra I will then release it from my hands. Upon its release I will use shape manipulation to manipulate the chakra into forming the weapon I want. First I will form the basic shape of the weapon, and like before, I will then add in the extra details last."

Shoot one/several bullets from your mouth.. well I for me I would perform this as follows..

"Well Senpai, because the bullets are coming from within you, I come to the conclusion that the most logical way to do this would be using your doton chakra to create the earth bullets ~ Not using pre-existing earth."

"First, I would gather my doton chakra in my mouth. Quite a bit of it. When I had gathered enough, I will then proceed to spit out small quantities of the chakra from my mouth. Upon the chakra's release it will become a small piece of earth and I will manipulate it so this earth were the shape of a small bullet. I then will direct the bullet at a desired target. I would probably spit out the small quantities of chakra in quick succession so that my target were under heavy fire. This would make the likelihood of the target avoiding the attack a lot less.. as opposed to them having to avoid only a single bullet, or a fair amount of bullets that were shot at them one after the other with a fair delay in between each shot."

Maybe my Senpai had a better way to perform the technique.. I had my doubts about my own way..

Last was a tricky question. Converting my skin to steal like armour ? What the hecK?!My Senpai was going to have to assist me with this one, I could feel it. But Nevertheless I would attempt to explain how I would perform it .. if even possible.. anyway.

"Well I guess I would surround my body with doton chakra, just a light layer around me, so it hovered just above my skin.
When I had done this, I would then manipulate the chakra to become solid - being doton chakra, you can expect this solid to be a thin layer of earth.. I would then manipulate the properties of the earth to become strong and steel like. When this is done I would find that my skin were covered in this steel like armour.. well I think."

@Bolded: You know what else could've given you a much easier conclusion as to why you needn't mention anything about using any sort of pre-existing earth for any of these techniques? That is not rhetorical, I want an answer to that question.

As for the bullets, only issue is, there are not small bullets like out of a gun these are rather big. Not enormous but I would say medium sized. Now, everything else was exceptionally well I just want you to answer my question because paying attention to details is an important factor you'll need for the RP, especially in battles.

Hint: even though I said case to case, I'm not quizzing you on specific cases I'm quizzing you on the main principles of the method.

While most of the times they're used as manipulation of the environment, I reckon you are able to materialize weapons/shields/small pieces of armor from your skin using earth chakra alone. If used as armor, these are merely planks of it localized in few parts of your body, like a chest plate or arm cuffs etc etc. Thus they're relatively light and do not prevent mobility.

(Doton: Dorosandan) – Earth Release: Mudshot

Description: The user spits a thick globule of mud at the target. If aimed correctly, it can blind the target's vision and choke them. It can also be used to create a sticky patch on the ground.

Similar to the first jutsu, but it's now specifically to create a glove of rock.

(Doton: Iwa Bunshin) - Earth Release: Rock Clone Technique

Description: The user creates their clone out of stone. Unlike other types of clones the rock clones don’t disappear after being defeated but rather crumble like rubble. Like before, you can create the clones from the ground or from your body, like they're coming from your skin. Quite a cool effect These can't use jutsus.

(Doton: Fukusuu no Dorosandan) - Earth Release: Multiple Mudshot Technique

Chakra cost: 20 (-15 per turn to remain active)
Damage points: N/A (+10 to taijutsu moves)
Description: This Technique coats the users body with stones, making them much more resistant to attacks, at the cost of their speed. Whilst using this technique, the user can even change their appearance, but once the technique is either defeated or worn off the users original appearance is shown. The user whilst in this armor is resistant to A rank normal ninjutsu but is vulnerable to Lightning Techniques.

Similar to the first, specialized in making armor, a better and larger one. I reckon you can change the armor design a bit, something like small spikes coming from your shoulders would be cool if you're shoulder slamming someone, for example. This encases your entire body in rock, as if creating a relatively thin layer over your body. But other than increasing your weight, thus taking a few nudges from speed, it doesn't hinder movement, as would have been expected. Though if we deal with master level taijutsu, if you have the exact same mastery as your opponent, using this jutsus you will be stronger and more resistant while your opponent will be faster and more flexible, but to the outside eye, the changes would be almost imperceptible.

(Doton: KageBunshin no Jutsu) – Earth Release: Shadow Clone Technique

Description: This technique creates a shadow clone made of mud of the user. Since its made of mud, it can continue to reform and mould itself back to its original shape. After reverting to mud, it can hold the opponent in place. The user can create upto three clones. They can also use up to C rank earth techniques.

Same as clones above, this ones can use jutsus though.

(Doton: Doryuheki) - Earth Release: Earth Style Wall Jutsu

Description: The user will first perform the Tiger → Hare → Boar → Dog and then creates a solid wall of earth as a form of defence. Chakra is either converted to earth within the body and then spat out to form the wall or the user can manipulate pre-existing earth to form the wall. The earth then instantly rises up and takes form. The barrier itself is also coated with chakra, making its strength incomparable to that of a normal mud wall. Because of the earth's special characteristics, the wall is highly resistant against, for instance, fire and water. Hizuren Sarutobi spits mud from his mouth to perform the jutsu whilst Kakashi creates a wall composed of bulldog sculptures to box-in Pain.

Allow you to spit mud which will quickly harden into a large wall.

(Doton: Iwa no Gōremu) – Earth Release: Stone Golem

Description: The user expels a large creature composed of stone from his mouth. The rock golem has a fair amount of stamina and brute strength, being able to bite and tear off flesh with its mouth and hands respectively. If used from above the target then the user can use the earth golem to drop down onto the opponent like a bomb and crush them.

Allows you to spit out a golem. Can't use jutsus.

(Doton: Hanridoryūheki) - Earth Release: Flowing Earth Wall of 10,000 Miles

Damage points: The user and his clones simultaneously perform hand seals Ram - Snake and expel a stream of mud from their mouths, which solidify into multiple columns of earth. These grow from the floor and together form a hardened wall of defence, with great height, extent and length. This technique can be enhanced with the Lava Release: Rubber Wall making it equal to an S rank level defence however Lightning S rank can easily break through the wall.
Note: Can only be used with a minimum of 3 shadow clones.

Similar to the wall jutsu I taught you above, now stronger.

(Koka no Jutsu) - Hardening Technique

Description: By utilizing earth-based chakra, the user creates armour made of rock that encases their body. The armour can also be used to create extendable weapons to strike a target with.

Same as above, stronger armor, the difference is this armor completely hinders one's movement, as you become attached to the ground. You are able to move your upper body fairly quick, allowing you a somewhat increased range, but still in short range.

(Doton: Dai iwa Kyojin no Jutsu) - Earth Release: Great Stone Golem Technique

What I mean is, since all these techniques were categorized and put into this one method, it means they have several traits that are similar to one another. Some are good traits and some are bad traits. I want you to tell me what each of those traits are respectively as advanteges and disadvanteges. This is designed to help you understand when it is good for you to use them and when it's not good/what consequences you may face, as well as how to defeat others who use these techniques and to speculate/expect what would happen (your opponent's response) after using this method.

Then I want you to tell me how and when you'd use these techniques in conjunction with either each other or other techniques/skills outside this element you've learned.

Method 1. Own Created.

Advantages

As you put it Method 1 (Own Created) is split into 3. ​

• Full body Chakra release techniques.
• Isolated Area Chakra release techniques.
• Projectiles.

An advantage for full body release techniques is it is a way which can be used to release genjutsu. This is due to the fact that you release a surge of chakra which has enough force to force out the enemies chakra from your brain which is causing the genjutsu. Also another advantage for this method is it often allows you to form some kind of armour/protection for your whole body. For example,

Description: This Technique coats the users body with stones, making them much more resistant to attacks, at the cost of their speed. Whilst using this technique, the user can even change their appearance, but once the technique is either defeated or worn off the users original appearance is shown. The user whilst in this armor is resistant to A rank normal ninjutsu but is vulnerable to Lightning Techniques.

The above techniques are examples of earth based full body chakra release techniques that share the advantage that they both provide full body protection to the user.

As for Isolated Area Chakra release techniques, an advantage I see is it allows specificity. This proves useful as you can be more precise in your attacks . It also means you don't unnecessarily waste chakra. For example, the following technique,

Description: After performing the snake → Seal of Confrontation and then by encasing their arm in rock, the user can deal a powerful hardened punch against an opponent while being protected from direct contact with their target. If necessary, the weight of the rock can be increased to further increase the punch's destructive power through the Earth Release: Added Weight Technique or the Earth Release: Super Added Weight Technique.

The above technique uses Isolated Area Chakra release as it specifically isolates chakra into one area (Your arm). It then becomes a rock arm. This is proof of an advantage for the technique as it allows you to use a technique which is more precise for the situation you are in (Potentially a taijutsu fight in this case). For instance you aren't completely surrounding yourself in armour to punch someone, as it is not necessary, it is a waste of time, chakra and effort. All you need to do is simply surround your arm in armour to deliver a punch or to block an incoming punch.

As for projectiles, it seems an obvious advantage for this subsection is it allows you to create objects which can be especially beneficial obviously when your opponent is out of hand to hand range. It allows you to strike them from a distance. Also they tend to be a lot easier to aim and direct. They allow for better precision.
Earth projectiles in particular can also be hard to anticipate and in turn dodge or form a counter quick enough as they are so unpredictable and versatile. It also seems a generally fast method to use, projectiles being able to be launched in quick succession, further contributing to the fact that they are hard to avoid/dodge/counter and what not.

I have also come to realize that a general advantage for method 1 is it allows you to change the shape of the initial technique during the duration of the technique.

An isolated Area chakra release technique which allows the shape of the initial technique to be changed as it's weight can be increased.

Because the shape can be manipulated usually during the duration of individual techniques (even regeneration counts such as the Earth Release: Shadow technique) it is fair to say that another advantage for this method is the user seems to have a fair amount of control over techniques which fall under this method when using them.
Another fairly obvious advantage for this method is you don't need pre-existing earth to use techniques which fall under it, which means this technique can be used pretty much anywhere.
Another advantage for the method is it seems great for defense, this not only protects you, but can also protect your comrades.

Disadvantages.

Now some disadvantages for this method is I guess movement can be restricted due to armour your create for yourself and the fact that you can actually isolate yourself by spitting out all these hazards, such as sticky mud which you yourself can become trapped in.
Also, as stated above this method seems more of a defensive method, and as my arch enemy Light yagami once said,
"You can't ever win if you're always on the defensive, to win, you have to attack"

Strategies.

A strategy for this method using techniques from this method could be using , (Doton No Jutsu) - Earth Release Technique to create a pillar and get up high enough so that you could look down on your opponent, and then use
(Doton: Iwa no Gōremu) – Earth Release: Stone Golem technique to create a Golem so that it drops down on the opponent in a bomb like manner.
I guess you could also use, (Doton: Fukusuu no Dorosandan) - Earth Release: Multiple Mudshot Technique, as you could fire at your opponents from above making it harder for them to avoid the technique.

As for using techniques from this method in conjunction with techniques out of this method, I guess it is a good idea to use the full body chakra release techniques such as (Doton no Yoroi) - Earth Release Armor in conjunction with Taijutsu techniques and techniques. Also you could use strategies with techniques which turn into walls such as (Doton: Hanridoryūheki) - Earth Release: Flowing Earth Wall of 10,000 Miles with water techniques, as you could potentially keep making mud to add to the wall but not have to require solely on doton chakra to create this mud. This could prove useful as people who don't know doton techniques but do know water techniques can actually assist you.
You could maybe engulf mud shots with flames or rather hide them within flames. This could increase the technique's lethality as you would expect an opponent to try and extinguish the flames using water, which will extinguish the flames, but have no real impact on the mud shots which should just continue towards them.

Okay I suck at strategies, I have never battled before so please give me some better ones.

I'm not going to give you anything, you have to work at this.

I'll give you some hints though, if you're having trouble. Think about projectiles. what happens after you release a projectile? What CAN'T you do after you've release a projectile. as well, what is the rule for using Full Body Release methods when up against genjutsu (it's explained above).

Think about what isolation means. When you isolate the and focus your chakra in one area, what does that mean for rest of the entirety that you did not explicitly focus on?

Give me a re-write of the Disadvantages and we'll proceed.

As for projectiles, a disadvantage for them is they can be easily anticipated as you can see them flying towards you for long enough that you can think of some form of counter fast enough. i.e - a wall of some sort would be effective.
There is also a possibility that projectiles can be used against you. Their course can be altered by a wind technique for example.
Also, this maybe be an misinterpretation, but the Earth Release technique makes small tools, so kunai for example? If so, once you throw this Kunai at an opponent, you lose that tool and your opponent may actually get their hands on this tool and use it against you.
Lack of mobility also leaves you a lot more vulnerable due to some techniques, as it means you can not easily escape, dodge or avoid an incoming attack and you become a more easy target as a stationary target is easier to hit than a moving one.
Also, this method seems more of a defensive method, and as my arch enemy Light yagami once said,
"You can't ever win if you're always on the defensive, to win, you have to attack"

Method 2: Environmental Manipulation

This next method deals with techniques that utilize the earth around you. Unlike the last set of jutsu where you would use doton techniques from your earth chakra within you and manifest the earth itself, these techniques involve you releasing that doton chakra outwards into the environment for manipulation. You can essentially do the same as with the last set of techniques, create weapons and or objects, etc. However this set of techniques also gives one the ability to manipulate the structure of the environment around your opponent allowing raise and/or lower the earth, deform the earth to allow you to change the environment for your own purposes, etc. The general idea behind these techniques are channeling your doton chakra, outwards into the field, more than often you will utilize shape manipulation to get desired shapes and entities.
