Great emphasis upon the size and the speed! It would indeed take up more chakra and effort in order to smash a guy within a large scale jutsu. However, let's discuss range a bit.
Short range is 0-5 meters, mid is 5-15 meters, and long is 15-25. This jutsu is able to go up to long, so you can actually do a lot more with this jutsu rather than just crashing your opponent. By creating huge pieces of rocks, you can basically have a good control of the battlefield. Like I said, Earth allows for creativity, so the only limit is your own imagination and chakra, of course.

Description: After performing the Rat hand seal, the user to control multiple sections of rock and move them around their opponent. The user then forms two gigantic sections that crush the opponent.

For this next jutsu, it would require some concentration as you did for the earth-sinking one earlier. Begin by channeling your chakra into the earth around you and as you do so, change the chakra within the earth from hard to soft. This will then allow you to dig into the earth.
Once you have done this, I will then send a shadow clone to a different location above the surface. When you come up, tell me where he has gone to.

Well you could use the technique to take the opponent by surprise, or use it to buy some time. You could even use it dodge an attack which is above ground. By sending your chakra through the earth, you can manipulate the earth to attack your opponent.

Well done. And after burrowing deep into the earth, there is also no trace of you left behind on the surface. This move is EXCELLENT in escaping most elements except for Lightning and some Water moves. Otherwise, keep in mind that you can travel through the Earth with this move and escape jutsus too.

Description: The user changes earth into fine sand by channeling chakra into it, allowing the user to dig through it like a mole. While underground one can sense what is happening on the surface and use the information to launch a surprise attack on the enemy. Once can also hide deep in the ground, escaping to a depth where the enemy cant reach. It also appears that after digging, the ground can be returned to its original state, leaving no trace of where the user entered the earth.

I want you now to begin sending your Earth Chakra throughout the ground. I will place a clone several meters away from you. When your chakra reaches my clone, control the earth around my clone to channel upwards, thus creating spikes around my clone to stab him. O_O

Now, proceed to place your hands upon the surface of the earth and then sending a violent wave of chakra over it so that you cause a small earthquake.

*I place my hand firmly on the ground and begin channeling my chakra into the ground, and as I do, I imaging several crashing waves in my mind; at which point, I send a violent surge of chakra through the ground which shakes and quakes the ground due to the ripple-form of the chakra*

This technique can be used to shake the ground under my opponents feet, putting him off balance; creating an opening attack.

Well said, and much like real earthquakes, small ones can also cause tremors and small chasms, upon which you can also utilize to your advantage.
However, remember that this move can only reach to mid range and that when you place your hand upon the ground, it makes you vulnerable for a short amount of time.

Very good, I just need the basic concept of water here.
Proceed to form Earth chakra within your body, but when you release it from your mouth, add a layer of water chakra to it so it becomes "mud-like". Aim this at my clone.

*I fixate on your clone, and as I do so, I begin to mould the chakra in me into earth chakra, which I then spew out, and as I do so, I mould separate water chakra which I also spew out layering the earth chakra. The earth and water mix together to form a mud which heads directly towards your clone hitting the front of it*

Excellent. So in what ways do you think you can utilize this in a fight?

Well, you could use the mud to slow down your opponents movements by spewing it onto the ground, since the mud will be hard to travel through. You could even use it to land a direct attack on your opponent, which wouldn't cause much damage, but leave an opening attack for something stronger.

Alright, so what utilizing against Ninja weapons?

Well, since the mud is thick and dense, it can slow down or stop the speed of kunais or shuriken in mid air.

Description: The user spits a thick globule of mud at the target. If aimed correctly, it can blind the target's vision and choke them. It can also be used to create a sticky patch on the ground.

Now, what do you know of the structure of caves and how you would collapse one?

Well for one, I know that caves are like giant holes in the earth and can vary in size, they often contain different structures such as stalactites and stalagmites. They're mostly made out of rock and can be both above and underwater.

To collapse one, I'd hit the top of the cave, since one rock falling off the ceiling can result in a domino effect due to the mass of rocks above the roof of the cave. This would cause the cave to collapse in on itself.
