Alright here we go...

Doton is one of the basic 5 elemental natures. The user can manipulate surrounding earth, mud, or rock for a great defense as well as offence. Earth techniques can also change how strong or weak the earth is, as well as the weight of it, such as when Onoki used Earth Release: Light-Weight Rock Technique which considerably lightened the giant boulder that Madara tried to crush them with, allowing Gaara to use his sand to hold it up. Also users of the Earth technique can create Earth of their own with their Chakra.

Doton is weak to lightning as lightning can split the earth causing it crumble away.

Doton is strong against water because Earth and Water create mud which an Earth Style user can still manipulate.

I would Think that maybe the Water element would be good to combine it with. I am not sure of any other good combinations though. Are there any others?

Doton is also a part of Wood Release, Lava Release, and Dust Release.

I once again sit down and close my eyes and focus my chakra into the earth in front of me. As I focus very hard I am able to make a small sphere of earth. Phew, that was hard. Shall I continue?
