What is the earth so dry?
Awesome!!!!!!Chakra is the result of molding together our spiritual and physical energies which is not only paramount to survival, and once molded can be channeled through the body and manipulated to achieve feats that would otherwise be impossible, like performing jutsu. Ordinarily there is a limit to how much chakra you can put out at one time because of the eight inner gates which limit and regulate the flow of chakra throughout the body. Unlocking the gates is a perfect example of using chakra to achieve the impossible; Opening the gates is like removing the restraints on the body, letting large amounts of chakra flood the body to forcibly unlock a practitioners full potential. For example, opening the First Gate allows the user to access 100% of their physical strength as opposed to the usual 20% by removing the restraints on the brain.
There are also different types of chakra, like Bijuu and Sage chakra, both of which are considered incredibly powerful, but can have adverse effects on the body when used. While Bijuu chakra is as potent and powerful as it is rare, a Jinchurriki runs the risk of losing control of their bodies, which can lead to committing atrocities that one would normally never consider (kind of like Gaara). Sage chakra involves mixing one’s physical and spiritual energy with natural energy gathered from the surrounding environment in order to enter Sage mode. While using sage chakra proposes less of a risk to the body afterward, it requires that a practitioner remain absolutely still to gather nature chakra. Because you have to remain still, it leaves you completely open to attack in the process.

Ninjutsu is a broad term that refers to use of techniques that generally allow us to do things that, for the most part, would otherwise be considered impossible. Most ninjutsu require the use of chakra, and different kinds of chakra control (e.g. most jutsu take on a specific shape, so shape transformation, a form of chakra control, allows one to give their jutsu the desired form and potentcy). Some ninjutsu require the use of handseals in order to more accurately mould, release and utilize chakra. Some other forms of ninjutsu don't require chakra, however, like those that involve the usage of weapons in one or more unique ways (e.g. The shadow shuriken technique). Besides this, there is also basic elemental ninjutsu. Elemenal ninjutsu involves using chakra control to employ nature transformation and alter the physical properties of our chakra to match one of the elements.
On top of basic ninjutsu, there also exists Kinjutsu, techniques that are generally forbidden from being taught for varying reasons, with one thing in common; There is always a drawback or condition that must be met for them to be used successfully. In the case of the Eight Inner Gates, once opened, deteriorate physical health exponentially depending on how many have been opened, how long they've been open, and how experienced a given practitioner is. In the case of Izanagi and Izanami, not only does it require one to be a descendant of the Sage of Six Paths, but the eye that is used to cast the Genjutsu will be sealed away and lose its light forever.
--------
Elemental Ninjutsu refer to the five basic types into which chakra can be transformed. It's a form of advanced chakra control that includes altering the nature of ones own chakra to match that of one of the respective elements: Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, and Lightning. Each element is unique in that they all grant different abilities and are each strong and weak against against each other, creating a sort of equilibrium as seen in through the elemental circle. The difference between ninjutsu and elemental ninjutsu us that ninjutsu is a more broad term to refer to techniques that allow ninja to do what would otherwise be impossible, meanwhile elemental ninjutsu refers to altering the characteristics to match that of a certain element, which can have adverse effects depending on which element is used.
The earth element in particular allows a user to manipulate earth in is many states (e.g. mud, rock, dirt, etc) along with the composition of the earth itself (e.g. changing it to make it as hard as metal or conversely, as soft as clay). Some of the more unique abilities of the element include the ability to petrify living tissue, along with increase or decrease the weight of earth, each possessing a different range of uses on battlefield (This can be seen in the Added-Weight and Light Weight Rock Techniques). The earth element is strong against the water element and weak against lightning; It's strong against water because earth can absorb the water and effectively withstand the concussive force (water techniques usually deal damage through concussive force) while it's weak against lightning, because lightning can easily break through earth with its destructive abilities. Aside from its strength and weakness, earth also has a certain 'aptitude' with other elements. One example is the Lava Element - An advanced nature kekkei genkai that combines earth and fire to create Lava.

I'm not sure why the earth is so dry, though.
:OAwesome!!!!!!
Now seems you have a good understanding of it all... except why earth is dry.... but anyways.....
Do you know what would happen if one shinobi used regular ninjutsu and another countered with an elemental ninjutsu [of any kind] of equal rank?
Excellent!:O
The latter would probably be the "winner." Elemental Ninjutsu is a form of advanced chakra control that supersedes ordinary Ninjutsu, so I'd assume the Elemental Ninjutsu should propose an effective counter.
*I sit down and take a meditative position, beginning with some light breathing exercises. Over the course of a few minutes, I control my breathing, slightly increasing the air I take in and release as time goes on. Once I've got a clear head, I maintain my breathing pattern and begin concentrating on what earth is in relation to us as ninja; Earth is burly, and resistant against change, but even so can support something as delicate as life. It can be used just as efficiently offensively as defensively, in different states of matter (Mud, Dust/Small earthy particles, etc). Manipulating earth requires strength and patience, so to get more in tune with it, I begin releasing my chakra into the earth to aid in my meditation. Under my control, the chakra diffuses throughout the area before eventually returning to me a few minutes later. When it returns to me, my chakra helps me to get a better grasp on what earth is and how to go about manipulating it and such (my chakra acts as a liaison, delivering the 'information' on the lay of the land back to me, kinda like how when a clone poofs, everything it learned is returned to you, the original, through chakra).*Excellent!
You are indeed ready for training!
No sit down and meditate. Feel the earth all around and you. Tell me it's properties and what you feel.
Reads a magazine!

*Afterwards I say nothing. Instead I just sit motionless, like a rock, taking in the lay of the (barren) land.*
Earth is tough; sturdy . . it requires patience to master . . . it's related to Yin in reference to Yin-Yang.Hello Superlative. I'll be taking over your training sense I am now Visions senpai. So when you reply to the above in the usual manner, we shall continue.
Excellent descriptions you had above lol. I think you're ready for your first jutsu, so lets get right down to bizz.Earth is tough; sturdy . . it requires patience to master . . . it's related to Yin in reference to Yin-Yang.
Nice to meet you, boss, but that's all I got. I'm pretty sure this isn't what you're looking for, but I can't really conjure a more sophisticated answer. From an RP stand-point, I used my chakra to ferry information (should be possible for chakra to carry information e.g. its been seen through the dispersion of shadow clones, medical ninjutsu, etc) about the earth's characteristics into my body during meditation to gain a better understanding, if that's acceptable.
If not, I'd like some help with the answer.
*I walk and search the area, looking for an adequately sized rock, which doesn't take too long for me to find. While holding the rock in my right hand, I knead chakra while mentally reviewing the properties of earth according to my understanding in a light meditation. After a few minutes, I begin channeling chakra into the rock, and using what I've learned about earth so far, I change the hardness and consistency of the rock into that of clay, making it easy to mold. I manipulate and change the shape of the rock to resemble a standard kunai knife. Afterwards, I increase the hardness of the rock, making it more solid and readily usable. When all is said and done, I show you the finished ninja tool as an example of my performance.*Excellent descriptions you had above lol. I think you're ready for your first jutsu, so lets get right down to bizz.
