It had taken 2 weeks, but he had finally made it. He stood at the entrance to the cave of The Trials of Mithril. Legend stated that this was the cave where Samuel had gotten the ore to forge his sword;Mithril, the metal of legends. "Rena, I'm gonna make The Guru pay for everything he's done." Keotsu said under his breath as he entered the cave.
As he entered the cave he saw a large inscription on the ceiling: "Thou who enters these trials must prepare for thy soul to be tested, thy body to be put on trial, and thy's mind to be challenged. If ye survive these Trials, thou shall be rewarded with the material of Legend. Thy Mithril shall be ye's. If thy is not capable of these feats, turn back now on leave these grounds."
As Keotsu entered the cave of the first of 3 challenges, a strange group of orbs, shining green, floated around him. "If you want to pass, solve this riddle: What is the beginning of the end, but the end of time." asked the orbs, in an angelic but at the same time deceitful voice. "The beginning of the end...but the end of time?" Keotsu repeated. He ran the possibilities through his head, backwards, every second letter, every third letter, and then it hit him. "E! The answer is E!" Keotsu yelled. The orbs started to swirl around him and a beautiful sound came from them as the said, "Correct the answer is E. End starts with E, while Time ends with E. You may move on the challenge of the soul." Suddenly, the orbs dissipated and then a door opened on the opposite side of the cave.
Keotsu walked into the second room and a deep voice boomed from nowhere, "This is the challenge of the soul. Answer each question truthfully and, depending on your answers, you will be allowed in to the next room." "I'm ready." Keotsu replied to no one. "The first question is this: Do you fight for yourself, or your friends?" asked the voice. "I fight for my friends. It may seem like I fight for myself, but I fight to get them back and protect them from danger. I would gladly give my life, if it meant that they would be forever safe." "Correct." the voice replied, and then " Why do you want to kill this man: for your friends, or revenge?" "For my fri-....No. Unfortunaltly, I want revenge. I want to take away from this man what he took from me. My family, my friends, my hopes, and my dreams. They're all gone because of him." said Keotsu. "...This is correct. You want to fight for your friends, but your desire for revenge, as for what you said, is there." then, "The final question is this: What will you do after you kill this man?" Keotsu remained silent for a moment, then said "I don't know. What I do know is that I'll have my friends back, and that's all I want." ".......Correct. You do not know if killing this man will satisfy your lust for revenge, but all in all, you want to live happily with your friends...." Then the voice said, "You may progress to the final challenge; the challenge of the mind. I warn you though. The man you seek is there. He is your challenge. I will use my power to restore you to top physical condition, but after that, what happens is determined by you." A warm light engulfed Keotsu, and he saw his wounds being healed, and his chakra being restored. "Thank you." Keotsu replied to the voice as he approached the final room.
Keotsu walked in and made eye contact with a dark-skinned man, in a blackish purple open vest, and pants of the same color. He had a shaven head, with a white goatee. "Ah, Keotsu. He meet again, at last." said The Guru. "Where is Rena." Keotsu said his anger overriding his fear. "I see you turned into your father. Your also like Samuel, in some ways."( A * means a stronger word that I'd rather not write for the younger readers, and because of personal morels.) "Jerk*, what did you do with Rena!" Keotsu yelled. "Fine, fine. Bring her out." said The Guru. A person in the Guru's garb came out with a hood on. He was dragging a chained and gagged Rena behind him; Rena tried to scream. "Master, I should be able to take him without killing him." said the mysterious person. The Guru replied, "Fine. Don't fail and don't kill him. If he dies Tobi will have my head." And with that The Guru disappeared. "Dang it!" yelled Keotsu as he faced the mysterious person. "I'm gonna kill you and take back Rena." said Keotsu angered. "Aw Keotsu, is that anyway to talk to someone you haven't seen in five years?" replied the mysterious person as he pulled off his hood.
There before Keotsu stood his best friend. Diango had joined The Guru.
