Here we have been comparison between Sage’s age people and the Uchiha and Senju age.
The four are close and in the same panel so is easy to compare them.
Ashura and Indra are almost with 1 meter taller and also their chests is bigger.
Indra and Ashura were not the only bigger ones.
The people that staying behind Ashura are not smaller than him, this meaning that the majority in their age were bigger / taller then the shinobi today.

Look at Sage head than look at Naruto parents head. There is a significant difference in sizes.
The great strength that people had in the Sage’s age could be related to they’re size.
They were very strength compared with the current generation, and the only difference between them was them size.
This is exactly like in the Olympic Games with the Africans and some Afro-Americans. They are very good, maybe the best (like Usain Bolt and a lot more of them), but also they are bigger than Caucasians and Asian.
