One thing that I have always found myself fascinated with is duality/rivalry type things. For example, I play tennis (a one vs one sport, at least for me lol), I became obsessed with boxing a few years ago (another one vs one sport, also known for great rivalries), and as I've grown into literary analysis I've become fascinated with dualities of characters themselves. There are always tons of literary references/parallels drawn between things, and that is because every single story is exactly the same (I can detail how if you guys want me to, but it might not be in this thread). Naruto is largely based upon dualities/dichotomies/rivalries between the characters, and there are LOTS of these. However, something that I find even more enthralling about the Naruto rivalries is how much variation exists within them. There are rivalries borne from actual violent conflict, personality conflict, internal, familial, enemies who are friends, something something I feel like I'm not too articulate right now...Here are just a few examples:
Itachi vs the Uchiha curse
Hashirama vs Madara
Sasuke vs Naruto
Kakashi vs Obito
Kakashi vs Guy
Neji vs Hinata (initially)
Naruto vs Gaara
Sasuke vs Gaara
Itachi vs Sasuke
Jiraiya vs Orochimaru
The list goes on and on...
One book that I keep being reminded of just because of the theme of duality (though primarily textbook, Biblical Cain/Abel variety) is East of Eden. I haven't taken the time to relate any of these, and I don't even know what this thread is supposed to be about hahaha. Maybe finding out which East of Eden character dichotomies parallel which Naruto ones or something.......idk sorry I really thought this was gonna be a great thread when I envisioned it. Oh well. Discuss I guess
