Prologue​

The Rinnegan is said to be the Ultimate Doujutsu out of the Three Great Eye Techniques (Byakugan, Sharingan & Rinnegan). It is said that this Doujutsu can learn any jutsu (with the exception of Kekkei Genkai); yet people still deny the fact that the Rinnegan can learn/use Genjutsu.. I say this is a false accusation, and here in this thread I will prove why The Rinnegan can learn Genjutsu.​

Mastery​

What is Genjutsu firstly?

Genjutsu (幻術; Literally meaning "Illusionary Techniques") are techniques that are employed in the same fashion as ninjutsu, requiring chakra and hand seals. However, the primary difference between the two is that the effects of genjutsu are illusory; instead of attacking the victim's body, like taijutsu or ninjutsu, genjutsu techniques manipulate the flow of chakra in the victim's brain, thus causing a disruption in their senses.

The Rinnegan allows the user to learn Six of the Chakra Manipulations; one can classify these in two ways, and two ways only: Wind, Water, Fire, Lightning, Earth, and Yin-Yang OR Ninjutsu, Taijutsu, Genjutsu, Yin, Yang, Yin-Yang. However, we need to focus merely on Yin Release as that is the main support for this theory. Yin Release:

Yin Release allows the user to create shapes, and forms out of "nothingness"; the picture below is an image of a shinobi's body: The Blue representing Spiritual Energy = Yin Release, The Red representing Physical Energy = Yang Release. When the two are together Yin-Yang is created, but that's a whole different topic.

Here Naruto goes on to ask about the chakra manipulation structure of Medical Ninjutsu, and Genjutsu, Yamato then replies that Kakashi tell him about "The Quality Control of Yin/Yang" another time. Thus, that further more supports my theory. The Rinnegan can learn Genjutsu.

To further more support my theory, Genjutsu is that of Yin Release which is explained here::

According to the Second Mizukage, genjutsu fittingly falls under the broad category of Yin Release. This is often used to create false images or to cause pain from trauma (because the body is led to believe it is in pain); however, there are plenty of other uses depending on the situation. They are not used as often as ninjutsu because they don't physically harm the opponent.

I know right? Plus The Sharingan is a devolved form of the Rinnegan.. Why wouldn't the Rinnegan (an evolved version of the Sharingan) be able to learn Genjutsu? It just doesn't fit right..

I don't understand why people would disagree in the first place.

He cannot copy Kekkai Genkai though, so I dont think a Nagato could use the likes of Tsukiyomi or KA. But he's definitely qualified to learn and master Genjutsu, but to say he has is a different story.

That was my reaction as well. It's the SO6P's eyes we're talking about.. So why exclude the fact that Genjutsu is a non-capable in this situation?

I agree, and would never imply that the Rinnegan can copy Kekkai Genkai based techniques, as the Sharingan cannot do such.

Just because it hasn't been used, doesn't mean it can't be used. Look at the facts; Yin Release can be learned thus, Genjutsu is a capability.

Yeah Nagato was definitely capable of using Genjutsu, but I'm not sure if he bothered to master it.

A little bit off-topic, I believe Madara might potentially be able to use any and every sharingan genjutsu, he has the Kekkai Genkai required i.e Mangekyou, then he also has the Rinnegan, which allows him to use any nature, so its possible.

The only problem with that is that are different Mangekyou's considered different Kekkai Genkai's?
