Riou tends to be shy and realistic. He is a quick thinker and very observant. He is the embodiment of pure modesty. He can't bear to be taken care of but rather prefers to take care of others. He has keen, good intellects, and is very discriminating about those with whom he associates with. Handles business matters with good judgment and is not easily imposed upon or deceived.
Riou is also usually materialistic in his view of life, analyzing & reasoning everything from his own way of thinking outwards. He is and attracted to only that knowledge that can be applied usefully. He will happily share his information with anyone, if he confirms their own usefulness in the world, and brings them eagerly out of their shells.

Riou has high hopes of returning to his hometown of Kamegakure and becoming the village leader. For now he works hard to make his dream a reality. Carrying on the values of his father and mother.

Birth
Ryujin Kiyomizu was born in the autumn to Hitoshi and Manami Kiyomizu. He was born in Kamegakure, the Hidden Turtle Village. A small shinobi village in the Land of the Sea.
Kamegakure History
Just like its nation, Kamegakure was rather poor, depending on the work of its shinobi for money to sustain itself. It is located near the sea on which it depends for food. The village was named Kame 亀 (meaning Turtle) by its founders Gorou & Hachiro, who attribute the villages existence to a turtle who helped them discover their destiny. And as payment for the turtle's help they vowed they would change their ways and teach others the path of humility and respect for nature. They would later die after appointing its first leader, Katsuo Shimizu. The village would suffer huge losses after several unconfirmed rouge shinobi from the nearby islands attacked with the pretense of "looking for food." However they're true motives were revealed by one of the villages Jounin, Hitoshi Kiyomizu. The rouge shinobi, enraged by Hitoshi's clever plan, left the village only to return at night and ransack the village and set it aflame. Despite how great the losses, the village was able to drive away its aggressors. Those remaining helped rebuild the village. However they could not replace the loss of life that had been lost. Of the confirmed dead bodies, one of those belonged to Hitoshi.
Village Life
Riou was well known in the village, especially for his peculiar interest in turtles. He loved studying turtles by the beach and looking towards the sea daydreaming about being a shinobi like his father. His mother, knowing how often he frequented the beach, made him a turtle shell anklet for good luck.
When not in school, Riou spent his afternoons training with his father. His mother, a Chuunin, was assigned to shinobi basic training (equivalent to a Konoha academy teacher). Riou was loved by both his parents and community. But the stigma added with successful parents, Riou was always pressured to be successful like his parents. But however much the hardships Riou faced, his fears and worries went away after a relaxing stroll to the beach. But how strange that his favorite pastime (much to the villages disapproval), ended up being his salvation.
Although not good at making friends, Riou was able to befriend Keiji, the second son of the the village leader. They became friends after Riou was drowning near the beach and Keiji spotted him while on a walk and rushed to save him. They both spent some evenings, when not in training, going to the docks and fishing.
Life was wonderful indeed and for the first time, Riou felt that nothing could ever go wrong. So one day he planned to spend the whole day at the beach catching shells to make his mother a necklace for her anniversary. However this time he took a different route instead of his usual one and ended up lost. It was getting dark and he was hungry. He had forgotten to take the lunch his mother had made for him. He was getting desperate and very hungry. What could he do? Just then he noticed a small turtle walking unusually fast. He was puzzled as to what made it walk like that. He decided to follow it and investigate. The more he walked the more noticeable the pillar of smoke that started rising in the evening sky became. He knew he wasn't far from it because the smell was getting more and more intense.
Eventually, the turtle reached a crossroads that was very familiar to Riou. He noticed one side was the one that led to the beach and the other led to his village. But was unusual was that as soon as he noticed the flames on the nearby trees, he looked down towards the turtle and it was gone. Suddenly worried that the flames were coming from his village, he dashed home only to find the entrance blocked by fallen debris. He found a way around by using the nearby forest while making note of the peculiar shadows of several people dashing thru its branches. To his horror, his home was aflame and on the verge of collapsing. He held his breath and swallowed his fear and rushed to the inside of his home.
There, between him and a burning log that fell from the roof, lay his mother. Riou cried, "Mother! Mother get up! We need to escape!" But no matter how loud he yelled his mother never got up. Suddenly a pice of the roof rumbles and collapses. Luckily Riou is saved by his neighbor, Hideki. He rapidly runs out of the burning builiding all the while carrying Riou yelling after his mother hoping she would appear. Hideki kneels down and grabs Riou's shoulders telling him to shut up to avoid the enemy from finding them. Riou, holding back his tears, calms down and escapes with the remaining villagers to a cave that was built for emergencies. There he learns of the events of what happened and to his horror, the death of his friend Keiji and his father Hitoshi.
The remaining days were hard for Riou as he helped bury the dead and rebuild the town. As time went by his heart grew cold and he he became very distant with everyone. The villagers understood his sadness but nonetheless they did everything they could to change Riou's mind eventually leading him to come to terms with the death of his family and friends.
Several months later a travelling merchant came to their village. While buying somethings for the village Riou noticed that the merchant carried a rather strange kunai hidden in the back of the cart. When he inquired about it the merchant nervously avoided Riou's gaze. Riou eventually got him to reveal the mystery for the kunai. He explained that it belonged to a very powerful shinobi from a village hidden in the leaves. Riou was able to squeeze more information from the merchant and discovered the village was in the land of fire. So after the merchant left and after much talk with the village elders, Riou was able to convince them to allow him to travel to the land of fire in hopes of finding the village hidden in the leaves. There he would make contact with this "powerful shinobi" and obtain knowledge on how to become stronger and one day return.
So he set out to the land of fire. Took nearly 2 years to get there (he took alot of detours not to mention all the information gathering) but he made it to Konohagakure, finally.

Kunai, along with the shuriken, is one of the most common ninja tools in the Naruto series. It is a black dagger designed for thrusting and stabbing, though it can still do some damage if thrown despite not being designed for it, and is about the length of one's hand.

Shuriken, like kunai, are one of the more basic weapons seen in Naruto series. They are sharpened, four-pronged metal stars, useful for throwing. Although small, they can be used to distract, pin down enemy shinobi, or if accurate enough, can be deadly. They have an open circle in the centre, used for grabbing with a finger, to avoid cutting oneself, or to put thread through. The circle is also beneficial to the weapons overall aerodynamics, ensuring more accurate trajectories.

A smoke bomb (煙玉, kemuridama) creates a cloud of smoke when it detonates. In Naruto, smoke bombs look like small spheres wrapped in paper, or like grenades. Smoke bombs are typically used to blind opponents and make them easier to attack. Alternatively, ninja can use smoke bombs on themselves so that opponents cannot see what they are doing.
