Finally decided to post my fanfiction up here.... Anyway. Quick note: This chapter and the upcoming ones have been written from the dubbed, but the more recent ones will have been written from the subbed. So, the writing style changes slightly.
(I have fourty chapters of this written up on FF.net, but don't read them! I'm editing the chapters before I'm posting them on here, so they're different to the ones on FF.net.)
Eh. Let the story begin, I suppose.
Michiru: A name, to be full, moon waxing, tide rising, to expire, 満ちる
Doragon: Dragon, ドラゴン
Chinou: Mind, brain
Iken: Power
Chinouiken: The ability to be able to control and move things with your mind, read minds, manipulate the particle structure. The unique Doragon bloodline; uses an extreme amount of chakra. (Reading minds is partly natural, only surface thoughts; but to delve deeper into a persons memories/thoughts takes concentration)
...
The young girl was sobbing as she was brought to the Lord Hokage. She was only about five or six years old, and she was covered in blood, a kunai knife jutting from her side. She was supported by two Chuunin who had found her by the gate.
"Michiru! What is wrong?"
"My parents... Both dead."
"What! Karei and Antou? What happened?"
"We were ambushed by some scary men who killed Mum and Dad then stabbed me. It hurts."
Then she collapsed-
The girl woke, and she was gasping for air. She ran to the bathroom, her naked feet pounding frantically against the soft floors. Turning on the cold water tap, she lifted up her shirt slightly. Water splashed over her fingers as she let the cool liquid run over her them, brushing them against the scar that marred her side.
It has been six years since my parents were killed. I am now twelve. I am Michiru Doragon. Tomorrow are the Genin exams. I must not fail them. I will become a Genin and make my parents proud.
She controlled her breathing and started to calm down, letting air fill her lungs, and then slowly breathed back out.
They have left me a gift, a Kekkei Genkai. Only we of the Dragon clan have it. Only I have it. I must restore the Dragon clan's name to the Village Hidden in The Leaves, Konohakagure no Sato.
The small, select string of words ran through her mind, calming her.
...
She sat at the kitchen table. Her legs gently swung back and forth, back and forth, her eyes travelling to the clock.
She had already eaten, sitting on the edge of her seat.
I might as well go to the academy.
Letting her mind run through her muscles, commanding them to move, she made slow, sure movements as she left her house, locking the door behind her.
She turned, letting the sun dazzle her, shutting her eyes against the dawn heat. Muscles relaxed, shoulders languidly carrying slender arms, she took up a leisurely pace, letting her body go onto cruise control as her mind soared, wings lightly tipping from side to side occasionally, only connected to the real world by a loose thread.
...
"Ok." Iruka-sensei stood at the front of the room. "In Squad Seven there will be four members, due to Naruto passing at the last minute.?
A ripple of mild surprise ran through the room. Michiru was still curious as to where she herself would go, so she mused if-
"In Squad Seven, there is... Naruto Uzumaki, Sakura Haruno-"
"YES!" Naruto shouted, joyous at the prospect of a certain pink haired Kunoichi on a team with him.
"I'm doomed," Sakura groaned, less than happy at being put together with the blonde haired, hyperactive Genin.
"And Sasuke Uchiha-"
"YES!" Sakura shouted, to the dismay of many other kunoichi in the room.
"I'm doomed." Naruto groaned.
"A-hem." Iruka cleared his throat loudly. "And lastly, Michiru Doragon."
Oh.
"Sensei! Why do I have to be with Sasuke?" Naruto said, jumping up on the desk.
"Because, Naruto, we try to keep the squads balanced. Sasuke got the joint highest marks, while you got the worst. In fact, your score was so bad we had to put both of the highest scoring Genin in your group."
Michiru grinned. She had gotten the same mark as Sasuke. Not surprising, really- she had trained for months in preparation for the Genin exams. Though, she had used her Chinouiken to find out the criteria being assessed?
"Hah! Hear that Ino? I'm with Sasuke and you're not!" Sakura was laughing at Ino, her face split into a large grin, her eyes shut into happy arches, with the other female glaring at her.
Michiru glanced over at the two, but then she linked her fingers together, resting her chin on them.
...
Michiru was sitting on the desk next to Sasuke, who was sitting behind his own table. They both looked over to Naruto and Sakura.
"Naruto, what are you doing?" asked Sakura. Naruto was setting up an eraser in the door frame, carefully reaching up and placing it at the top, wedging it in cautiously so the slightly open door seemed welcoming.
"That's for the guy who's making us wait! Surprise!" Naruto finished the 'trap' and stood back. He surveyed his work with a critical eye, and then nodded. He was sure it would work.
"You're asking for trouble," Sakura said, hands on her hips. "You know you shouldn't do that."
"Let him have his fun," Michiru murmured, shutting her eyes and leaning back.
"Our teacher's a Jounin, an elite ninja. You think he'd fall for that?" said Sasuke, looking over at the door. His voice was condescending as he looked at Naruto?s pathetic creation.
"Yeah, Sasuke's right. You're such a loser, Naruto," Sakura agreed with the Uchiha boy.
The door then opened. A head popped in. The eraser fell down onto grey hair, the chalk dust sent rising in a cloud not making a mark on the already bland colour.
Naruto pointed and laughed, clutching his side with one hand.
"I got him. He totally fell for it," He was choking with laughter, his voice wheezing slightly as he forced the words out.
"I'm sorry Sensei. I told him not to do it but he wouldn't listen. I'd never do anything like that." Sakura said quickly.
The man walked into the classroom, and reached down for the eraser. His lazily picked it up, his fingers loosely caught around it. Looking at it for a few moments, he said:
"Hmm. How shall I put this? My first impression of this group... You're a bunch of idiots."
...
"Alright, why don't you introduce yourselves. One at a time," suggested the grey haired Jounin.
"Introduce ourselves? Well, what are we supposed to say?" Sakura asked, slightly bemused.
"Things you like, things you hate. Dreams for the future. Hobbies. Things like that."
"Why don't you tell us stuff first? I mean before we tell you about us, so we can see how it's supposed to work." Naruto said.
"Me? I'm Kakashi Hatake. Things I like and things I hate... I don't feel like telling you that. My dreams for the future... Never really thought about it. As for hobbies... I have lots of hobbies." During the short speech, his hand had drifted to his masked chin and lingered there, as if in thought.
"That was useless. All he really told us was his name." Sakura muttered. Naruto nodded.
"Ok. Your turn. You on the right. You first." The Jounin snapped out of his reverie and looked at Naruto.
?Believe it. I'm Naruto Uzamaki.? Naruto fiddled slightly with his headband. ?I like instant ramen in a cup, and I really like the ramen Iruka Sensei got me at the Ichiraku noodle shop. But I hate the three minutes you have to wait after you pour the water in the ramen cup. My hobbie is eating different types of ramen and comparing them. And my future dream is to be the greatest Hokage. Then the whole village will stop disrespecting me and start treating me like somebody, somebody important.?
?Alright. Next.? Kakashi already seemed bored.
?I'm Sakura Haruno. What I like, err.. I mean the person I like is??
She looked over at Sasuke.
?My hobbies..er..?
She giggled as she again glanced over at the black haired Genin.
?My dream for the future is..?
She squealed into her hands. A blush had covered her face and she kept looking over at the impassive Uchiha.
?And? What do you hate?? Kakashi prodded.
?Naruto!?
Naruto looked sad.
?And you??
?My name.. Is Sasuke Uchiha. I hate a lot of things, and I don't particularly like anything. What I have is not a dream, because I will make it a reality. I'm going to restore my clan, and destroy a certain someone.?
A silence stretched out, Naruto feeling uncomfortable, feeling the need to fill the emptiness with noise. But then Kakashi spoke again.
?Last person. You.?
?Me?? Michiru said. ?I am Michiru Doragon, last surviving member of the Dragon clan. My likes? A few things? training, reading, musing, drawing. My hates? Hmm? A lot of things. My hobbies? Same as my likes. My dream for the future? I don't know; I suppose getting better as a Ninja and becoming stronger.?
And finding out who killed my parents.
Kakashi paused. "Good. You're each unique and have your own ideas. We'll have our first mission tomorrow."
?What kind of mission are we going to have?? Naruto asked.
?It's a task that we'll do together.?
?What what what what?!? Naruto asked, bouncing up and down. He seemed full of eagerness and energy, like small puppy.
?A survival exercise.?
?Huh? A survival exercise?? Naruto said. He stopped jumping about and stared, mouth slightly open.
"I thought we were supposed to have a mission, not more practise. We already did this stuff at the academy. That's how we got here." Sakura said.
?This is not like you previous training.? Kakashi said.
?So? er? so? er? what kind of training is it then?" Naruto asked.
Kakashi laughed, somewhat sinister. His hand had splayed out across his face, muffling the sound.
?Hey, hold on, that's a normal question. What's so funny?? Sakura asked.
?Well. If I tell you the answer you're not going to like it," Kakashi said. "Of the 28 graduates that came here only 9, or 10 will actually be accepted as Genin. The other 18 will be weeded out and sent back to the academy. In other words, this is a make it or break it test. And the chance that you'll fail is at least 66.?
He paused for effect.
?See? Didn't I tell you you wouldn't like it??
?That's crazy!? Naruto exclaimed.
?It is slightly unfair,? Michiru said.
But I?m not surprised.
?We worked hard to get here! Believe it! What was that graduation test for anyway?" Naruto finished.
?Oh, that?? Kakashi?s voice was dismissive. ?That was just to select the candidates who might become Genin. Or not."
?Whhhaaattt?? Naruto drew out the word, letting it climax and then fall abruptly, putting a slight emphasis on the ?t?.
?That's how it is. I decide whether you pass or fail. Be at the designated training spot at 5:00AM. And bring your ninja gear.?
Michiru heard the thoughts of Sakura and Naruto crowd into her head. Sasuke thought nothing, he just clenched his hands together. His knuckles where white and his hands shook.
?That's it. You're dismissed. Oh, tomorrow you'd better skip breakfast or else??
Again, that pause for effect.
?You'll puke.?
Bring it on.
