What I found particularly annoying is that Bulma clearly states, that Goku black is her enemy but toei never expanded on that.

That and the plot hole. Cell's time machine goes back to the unseen timeline, where Future Trunks is already dead. It can't go to the timeline Trunks is from, without being messed with.
