Chapter 7: Unmoving fortress
I stayed back. Captain Kuchiki releasing Rairyu was unexpected. I found it hard to breath in the immense spiritual preasure he emitted. The flickering light forced me to hold my hand up to see. Captain Kuchiki moved his sword and the lightning followed behind it, almost like a ribbon, flowing in the wind. Suddenly he flicked his blade, sending a blast of electricity flying towards me. I used my flash step to evade, just in time. I watched in awe as the lightning eradicated the spot where I had once stood. Shifting my attention to the Captain, I noticed that his body was no longer surrounded by electricity. My chance to strike.
I used flash step to move into range and prepared to slash. However, once again I was stopped by electricity pulsing through my body. I fell back. Looking up, I noticed that the captain had moved his sword and created more electricity to block my attack. I felt a warm liquid streaming down my face. I wiped my forhead and noticed my hand was stained scarlet with blood.
"Not only did you block me, but you cut me without me even noticing," I said as I jumped back and to my feet.
"Be careful. If I was your enemy, your head would be rolling," he said calmly as once again the lightning encircled him. I gulped at the thought. He held his ground.
"The scary thing about you captain, is that once you draw your sword, you don't have to move. You can fight effectively from any range. I'm not safe anywhere on this battlefield," I said as I felt sweat and blood drip onto the ground below me.
"An accurate assumption," he said as he pointed his sword to the ground and pushed forward, "I will show you just how accurate you are. Sekai (World)." He plunged the tip of his sword into the ground. For a moment, nothing happened, but after a moment, I felt intense pain throughout my entire body. My muscles began to spasm as the electricity moved through every inch of my body. I was unable to drop my weapon as the electricity began to lock my muscles and made me completely immobile. I wasn't even able to collapse because my legs were locked in position. I couldn't even scream.
As quickly as it had come, the sensation disipeared as I fell to my knees, gasping for breath. I glanced upwards as Captain Kuchiki pulled his blade from the ground.
"Do not worry, I did not use an intense enough voltage to kill you and I made sure not to allow the lightning to enter your internal organs. That attack was merely to cause pain. Do not take my actions for cruelty Katsume. Though it seems cruel now. My purpose is true. And only you can make the pain stop," he said as he looked at me with saddened eyes and a slow solemn tone of voice.
"Your control is incredible captain. To control every portion of lightning, even after it has entered your opponent, your level of skill is beyond anything I could muster," I said as I got my bearings.
"There is no point in going in with a negative attitude. If you think you cannot harm me, you never will. You have more than enough ability to be able to cut me, however you are going about it all wrong. Head on attacks will not work, even if you try to move faster then me. Empi is designed to dodge attacks, maneuver around a defense and strike while preparing to escape. It is fast and flexible. Also, from what I have determined, Empi is not just a melee type. It does possess some kido. However, you have yet to find it. We shall return to this when you are confident you can cut me. Until then you will not be acting luitenent. You will stay in the barracks and your daily duties will be training and cleaning. Understood?"
"Yes sir!" I said, a little disipointed. "I will not disipoint you. I shall try again before the new year comes, sir!" I promised.
"I await the day," he said as he sheathed his weapon and began to walk away. "You are dismissed," he said as the sun began to set. I went to my quarters, to begin training the next day.
