Chapter 9: Heaven Dividing Light
Ichirou looked in fear as lightning flashed above us. The two captains that stood near by stood and prepared themselves. Captain Ukitake drew his Zanpakuto.
"Jushiro, you are going to bring out Sogyo no kotowari?" Captain Kyoraku asked the white haired captain.
"I have seen this bankai once before, and occasionally it discharges lightning to stabilize it's power. I want to be prepared to defend. All waves, Rise up and become my shield. Lightning, Strike now and Become my Blade. Sogyo no Kotowari!" He said as his Katana became two strangely shaped swords connected by rope and charms.
Ichirou stepped back then set his flower petals forward at great speed. But suddenly a flash of lightning struck all of the petals, vaporizing them. Suddenly a lightning bolt came down towards us. Captain Ukitake used his zanpakuto to redirect it.
"Jigoku (Hell)," Captain Kuchiki announced as several lightning bolts came down in the shape of dragons. The flew towards Ichirou. Ichirou dodged some, causing them to crash into the ground and create large craters. However, the others pursued him. "There is no point in running. This attack is like a homing bomb that will chase you until it strikes," Captain Kuchiki announced as one of the dragons hit Ichirou with a massive electrical explosion.
The light lessened, and Ichirou layed on the ground, barely able to move. He worked himself up to his feet.
"I...I hate you! I hate you more then any other person. YOU are the bane of my existence. What makes you so special? Why is everything I do compared to you? Who made you God?" Ichirou screamed. Captain Kuchiki sighed.
"Life is not about being the greatest to ever exist. Life is about enjoyment and fulfillment. What is the point in life if there is never a challenge? Everything I have ever done, I have accomplished with such ease. Even my Bankai which so many say is god-like, was accomplished only 3 days after gaining my Shikai. But what is the point? I have reached the peak of my potential. There is no point to life, for I have nobody to surpass. Brother...you are so envious of me. But I am the only one who should be envious. Yes, even I can have envy. I envy you my brother. For you can only progress. I am a barrier for you too pass. And though it may seem the world is against you, you can only raise to greatness, where as I must continue to maintain, less I fall backwards. I hate my state of limbo. There is no point to life for I never have anywhere to go. Brother, if you will ever heed any of my advise. Take this. Spend your life, and every day you live it, to train. Train to be the best you can be. Surpass me. For when you do surpass me, I will then be able to enjoy life once more. For you will be the one I must surpass," Captain Kuchiki said as the storm calmed down.
Ichirou just had a blank stare on his face. He was stunned to hear the words from the Captain's mouth.
"I hate you!" he said at last.
"Good! Use hate as your catalyst to grow," Captain Kuchiki said as he began to walk away, and prepared to retract his bankai. When suddenly I felt a blade to my throat. I felt myself being pulled away. I found myself held by the blade of Ichirou, my body couldn't move. I watched as tree branches trapped my body.
"I am tired of your dribble brother! Relinquish the title of Captain to me or this girl dies!" Ichirou said from behind me as we looked at Captain Kuchiki. The Captain looked at us. Out of nowhere, lightning struck the ground, separating me from Ichirou and his control. A look of pure fury came over the Captain's face.
"You have no honor. You are a coward. Now I will show you what you deserve. Look up, at what my Bankai truly looks like," he said as a massive roar-like thunder was heard. Lightning in the shape of wings separated the clouds, and a massive dragon that was far greater then even the Seireitei in size came out from behind the clouds. It's entire body was made of lightning. "Joukai! (Heaven)" he said as a bolt of lightning came down from the dragon and struck his hand. Captain Kyoraku grabbed me and put me behind himself and Captain Ukitake. Captain Kuchiki held the lightning in his hand, and with a flick of his wrist, the lightning took the shape of his sword and became his sword. The dragon exploded with a mighty flash and became a flurry of lightning that suddenly collapsed into a sphere of pure light.
"Hikari no Joukai! (Light of Heaven)" He said as the light sphere turned into a massive lightning bolt that struck the captains blade. The most brilliant flash of light I had ever seen blinded me momentarily. Then I looked back at the captain, who now held a blade the shined as brightly as the sun. A high pitch noise emanated from the blade, resulted from the high intensity vibrations of all the electricity stored in the weapon. Winds blew at full force. Nearly knocking us off our feet. The Captain's spiritual pressure was beyond compare. Even Captain Kyoraku and Captain Ukitake were taken back slightly.
Out of nowhere Head Captain Yamamoto appeared and drew his weapon.
"Bankai! Zanki no Tachi" the head captain screamed as his blade took on the appearance of an old burnt sword. He held it out in front of him in a defensive position.
"You're crazy head captain!" Captain Ukitake announced.
"I think Yama-jii is doing this because he knows just how deadly this Bankai is. He wants to stay here to hold it back if it needs to be so," Captain Kyoraku commented.
I looked back at Captain Kuchiki. He held his blade towards the ground as lightning appeared behind him and took the form of wings. Suddenly he began to fly as Ichirou was paralyzed by what was most likely fear. He rushed forward, with the glowing sword behind him. Captain Yamamoto prepared himself as Captain Kuchiki lifted his blade and brought it down on Ichirou's face. All I could see after that was a flash of light.
