Chapter 8: Storm
I continued to train since that day. I spoke with Empi often, though she did not want to make learning my new abilities easy for me. However, it was on a this day when I walked into the squad 6 training grounds, I saw that Captain Kuchiki was there with Captain Ukitake and Captain Kyoraku. The three captains were good friends and all got along very well. Though it was an oddity to see them out in the training grounds.
I politely bowed before moving to a stone I normally sat on to meditate. I took little notice of what they discussed, however, I was forced to take notice when I sensed another presence enter the grounds. I opened my eyes to see a man dressed in very elegant clothing, with ceramic hair pieces similar to the ones my captain wore. In fact, the more I looked at him, the sooner I realized that he looked exactly like the Captain, with the exception of him not having the Captain's trademark lock of white hair. He didn't wear a soul reaper's uniform, but he did carry a zanpakuto, which took the form of a short straight sword, kept at his waist. He stormed over to the Captain.
"Katsuo! I demand satisfaction!" the strange man said.
"Ichirou, I already told you, these attempts to usurp me are pointless. Did you not learn your lesson from when I so easily shamed you?" the captain replied.
"How could I forget? But I have grown stronger. Strong enough to claim the title of Captain from you!" Ichirou replied. Captain Kuchiki turned to face his guests.
"Excuse me for one moment. I have family business I must settle," he requested calmly. Captain Kyoraku and Captain Ukitake kindly walked away and sat over by me, much to my surprise.
"Ichirou doesn't know when to quit, does he Jushiro?" Captain Kyoraku asked the white haired captain beside me.
"I can understand sibling rivalry, but this is becoming more of an obsession," Captain Ukitake replied.
"Excuse me Captain Ukitake, but who is that," I asked.
"Oh right, I forgot that you never met him. That is Ichirou Kuchiki, Captain Kuchiki's elder brother and identical twin. He is the leader of the Kuchiki clan," he replied.
"I thought the Clan leader was always the Captain of Squad 6," I stated.
"In most cases," Captain Kyoraku began, "But because of Ichirou's lack of battle ability, and Katsuo being a prodigy, they decided to make one the clan leader, and the other went up for the Captain's exam. But that concept never sat well with Ichirou who thought he deserved both titles." I nodded to show I understood.
"Prepare yourself, Brother. I will not hold back," Ichirou said as he drew his blade.
"Do what you wish," the Captain replied. His face straight and looked as though he wasn't even in a fight. He almost looked bored.
"I will show you! Tangle: Kajuenzakura!" Ichirou said as 10 pink cherry blossoms appeared and hovered around him.
"This trick did not work the first time, what makes you so confident it will work now?" the Captain asked.
"I learned something since the last time. When identical twins are born in the soul society, their spiritual characteristics are often the same. That holds true for us as well. I, like you have an immense reservoir of spiritual pressure. It took me a great deal of training, but now I have gained a Reitsu equal to your's in terms of potency," he said as the cherry blossoms continued to float around him. Suddenly I felt crushed by an immense force emanating from the Kuchiki clan leader. Captain Kyoraku stood in front of me and blocked out the sensation.
"To think...that is what Captain Kuchiki's Spiritual pressure is like," I managed to get out between breaths. I looked up to see that the Captain no longer looked bored, however he seemed unaffected by his brother's spiritual pressure.
"At first I doubted your abilities because you were weak,but that is not what divides us my brother. A warrior is defined by three characteristics. His sheer power, his intellect and one other aspect. You are a very intellectual man, we both are, and you have shown that you has some decent raw power. But what divides us, is the third aspect. Will. True power, is sheer determination. Making the impossible possible through sheer force of will. Those without a strong will are destined to be walked over and forgotten. I am the great mountain, all powerful and unmovable. You are a grain of sand, swept away with merely the smallest fit of wind. Now I will show you what will power is capable of," Captain Kuchiki said as he held his blade out in front of him with the tip pointed towards the sky.
"What does he mean," I asked.
"Just watch," Captain Kyoraku said with a smile and a small chuckle. I watched the Captain as he released the grip on his blade. The blade seemed to magically remain in air as the captain pulled his hand away and left the blade floating in air.
"Bankai," he said as the blade suddenly flew up into the sky, emitting a bright flash. When I opened my eyes, the sky was dark with storm clouds. Lightning surged between clouds and flashes of light nearly blinded me. "SoraKoutei Rairyu Arashi." (Sky Overlord Lightning Dragon Storm)
