Chapter 1
Breaking
Born in darkness. Grasped by light. A struggle has begun between the two options. However, the young man known as Draco Malfoy is about to find out a third option.
Knowing that his mission is to kill the headmaster of Hogwarts, Draco is left speechless. Left with the burden of this dreadful task, he heads to a place for answers. Knowing that his mind cannot give him the a clear answer, he begins to want his heart's answer. So, after hours of thinking on the ride to Hogwarts, Draco immediately heads to the Mirror of Erised in the back corridors of the school. Having found the location from his father, Draco hopes it will lead him in the right path.
Creeping into the room with his wand in hand, Draco looks around fearing that someone might have seen him. Letting out a sigh of relief, he walks into the room that might bear his answer.
"Lumos" Draco mutters, which activates a blue light at the tip of his wand. He looks around straight into the center of the room and quickly notices the mirror. Slowly, he approaches the mirror with his heart racing with every step. What is his true desire? Closing his eyes, afraid to see what is in-front of him, Draco comes to a hault.
"It's all worth it. I have to do this." Draco says, motivating himself. Opening his eyes, which now are locked onto the cold glass mirror, Draco stares at an empty mirror.
"What is this? Why isn't there anything?"
Draco puts his hand onto the mirror, feeling the hopes and dreams of everyone that has ever locked eyes onto it. All of the desires flow through him. All but his own. He closes his eyes once more hoping to see an answer this time.
"I have to see this. I need to know..where to go. Show me."
Opening his cold Grey eyes, Draco faces the mirror once more. Much to his dismay, he see's nothing. Not even his own reflection.
"Why can't I see a thing?!" he angerly shouts to the mirror. "I need an answer! Show me the truth! Show me what I must do!" Draco shouts directly into the mirror, raising his wand. Nervously shaking, he lowers it while dropping to his knees. "Show me....something."
"Typical of a Hogwarts object to give no answer to someone who deserves it." a voice whispers above Draco, which causes him to turn around in fear that someone has noticed him.
"Who's there?" Draco asks the voice, while standing back up. "Who is it?"
"Me." the voice mutter again, fading out.
Draco raises his wand and his face boils with anger. He points his wand to the door. "Potter? Is it you? Do you want payback for the kick I delivered earlier? Come on out then."
"Potter? You think I'm Potter? How low can someone fall?" the voice states behind Draco. Draco's eyes bulge in shock as he slowly turns around facing the mirror, which now shows an image. An image of Draco himself.
"Y-you're....me?" Draco asks the mirror, with fear flowing through each and every letter.
"Of course not. I'm what you want. I'm who you want to be. I'm what you need to be." the mirrored Draco responds. "Tell me, notice anything different about us, already?"
"You aren't wearing anything of Slytherin....You're wearing a black suit with a white collar and red tie." Draco answers the reflection.
"And what does that tell you?" the reflection asks Draco while swaying his hand up into the air.
"That you're nothing more than a disrespectful twit." Draco tells the reflection with a cold voice.
"No. It shows that I'm not branded like you! I am a new breed. I have grown past petty school groups. I'm the perfect wizard." The reflection stated in a strong, prideful voice.
"So, you've become a....full-fledged Death Eater? You've killed..."
"No."
"Then you....are member of....that wretched army?"
"No! Stop asking these impudent questions. Open your eyes. For the first time open your eyes and look at what you truly want." the reflection shouts at Draco with a crazied voice which makes Draco fall backwards. "Now, look at me again. What do you see?"
Draco slowly stands back up without picking his wand up. "I....see.." Draco steps closer to the mirror, with his hand leaning out. "Another choice....." Draco places his hand onto the mirror, and the reflection places his hand so that it aligns with Draco. "The answer.....I see my true self. I see.....a..." The reflection's eyes light up while it smiles with approval. "God." Draco says with admiration.
"The dark arts aren't the answer. Neither is the light. The only answer is what you want. And you want...." the reflection says.
"Order." both Draco and the Reflection say at the same time.
"How do I achieve this? I can't do it alone." Draco eagerly asks, removing his hand from the mirror and now looking up at his reflection.
"You don't need much. The will you have is enough. However, you will need some...help, but not from me." the mirror tells Draco while turning around.
"Who do I ask?! No one on this planet has the right vision. No one understands!" Draco begs to his reflection.
"There are four students here at Hogwarts who are extremely talented. They all have reasons to be in the special group we are in. All they need is a little..." The reflection turns it's neck around, to look back at Draco. "Push." The reflection then vanishes. Draco places his hand back on the mirror while a smile embraces his face.
"I will....find them, but first...." Draco picks up his wand and takes small steps back. "Diffindo!" The mirror breaks down the middle with glass shattering all over the floor. Draco rips off his Slytherin tie and throws it onto the ground, joining the broken glass.
"Only I can have the answer."
