Doton with Kiritsugu

[Mudo]

*"Got it." I responded, beginning by standing up perfectly straight with my two legs close together, I channel my doton chakra into the earth surrounding me, changing the affected earth from hard to soft. Once I've done this I then proceed to dig into the earth slowly, and right before I am completely submerged I stare down the clone from about 9 meters away from me. As I am under, I start to feel as if I am one with the earth, the short bursts of chakra I release through out the surrounding area paint a picture as to what occurs above me. "Where are you?..." I thought to myself, focusing on every minute detail; the trees' leaves rustling, the bugs moving, until I finally sense the clone's whereabouts. I quickly open my eyes and come back up from the ground, returning to the same straight, standing position from the beginning. "The clone is about 10 meters outwards towards my 11' O'clock, or towards your 2' O'clock." I stated, "am I correct?".*

 

[Adachi]

"Pinpoint response!" I exclaimed, nodding my head enthusiastically. "Now, in case you haven't noticed, this jutsu is extremely beneficial in multiple ways. There is one major concept it introduces. Firstly, why is it important to know where your opponent is at all times? Secondly, how might you "sneak" this jutsu in such a way so that your opponent doesn't know?"

 

[Mudo]

*After hearing both questions I pondered for a moment before answering; "Hmm, it is always important to know where your opponent is because one must always have a watchful eye on them in order to survive. Are they making any hand signs/hostile movements? What body stance are they assuming? What is their body language insinuating about what they're thinking/feeling now? These questions can only be answered during battle when you have your eyes on your opponent. In addition, if you don't know where your opponent lies than you are susceptible to a sneak attack that could cost you the battle, which is why this technique is so useful. Secondly, I guess the only instances I can come up with where your opponent would be unaware of you using this technique would be when they'd have no line of sight on you. For example, if you were to use a jutsu such as the Hidden Mist technique, your opponent would lose sight of you and you'd then be able to perform this technique to pin point their location, on the other hand, if your opponent performed such a technique you would use this jutsu to find them. I guess this is a technique that flourishes best under certain circumstances." I concluded.*

 

[Adachi]

"Good response," I said. "Though I don't believe you can really see the physical aspects of your opponent when you're underground, bod y language is definitely an important aspect that very few people touch upon. You are definitely correct on keeping tabs on your opponent, however, this is why at the start of most battles, I enjoy casting Rain Tiger at Will, or simply some jutsu that will allow me to know where my opponent is at all times. Surprising your opponent is also another concept that you must remember."
I gestured at the whiteboard I had summoned up earlier, taking the eraser to introduce another concept to Mudo.
"One," I wrote. "Surprising people is basically catching them off guard, and it inflicts shock, which makes them vulnerable for usually a short amount of time, and in that moment, allows you to pull off moves. Two, surprising people can also be a short timeframe in your moves, as your opponent is human and has feelings, and should react to your jutsus. Hesitation and shock usually give you time to plan and think."
I paused a moment, gazing at the spot where Mudo had come out of. "Don't forget that this jutsu also allows tactical retreats into the ground that can help you avoid a lot of jutsus."
Forming the Tiger handseal, I created a single Shadow Clone about mid range from Mudo. "Well, let's move on. I want you now to begin sending your Earth Chakra throughout the ground. I will place a clone several meters away from you. When your chakra reaches my clone, control the earth around my clone to channel upwards, thus creating spikes around my clone to stab him."

(Doton: Moguragakure no Jutsu) – Earth Release: Hiding like a mole technique

Description: The user changes earth into fine sand by channeling chakra into it, allowing the user to dig through it like a mole. While underground one can sense what is happening on the surface and use the information to launch a surprise attack on the enemy. Once can also hide deep in the ground, escaping to a depth where the enemy cant reach. It also appears that after digging, the ground can be returned to its original state, leaving no trace of where the user entered the earth.

 

[Mudo]

*"Interesting." I exclaimed, grinning slightly at how insightful this person was, my instructor. A prominent "poof" noise was heard just ahead of me as a clone of Kiritsugu-sensei materialized before my very eyes. The assignment now given, I stood attentive, beginning to form the hand seal, Serpent, while simultaneously releasing my doton chakra into the ground towards the clone that was three, perhaps four meters away from my location. As my chakra began to reach it's destination I followed accordingly by utilizing shape manipulation to control the earth around the clone, channeling it upwards. From there, the imagination seized the moment, visualizing the rising earth splitting off into multiple sharp and lethal spikes. It's width, resembling the width of the average human palm, down to the tip which was as thin and as menacing as a serpent's tooth all spawned from the mind, my mind. Eight, eight spikes in total slowly rising towards the clone methodically, as if in a state of infancy, and as if the spikes were acting so slowly deliberately, savoring every conceivable moment of inching closer and closer towards their target. There were two heading towards the clone's front side, two heading towards the clone's back side, two on both the left and right sides of the clone, and one, one focused Shinobi, who imagined the clone an enemy of Sunagakure, his village of alliance. A thousand emotions ran rampant through out my mind as I clasped my hands together tighter and tighter, tensing up every muscle in my body, my facial expression as stern and as determined as a Lion about to pounce on it's prey. In one instant burst of emotional release, the spikes all surged forward with great speed, piercing the clone from all sides. The clone disperses shortly after, as I begin to calm myself by releasing the Serpent hand seal and loosening up my entire body, letting my arms go limp, and raising my head up towards the sky. I stared off into the blue yonder, as I carefully began to slow my breathing down, although still apparent that I was heavily fatigued.*

 

[Adachi]

It appeared that the brilliant student had once again grasped the idea of the technique in one go - although, it appeared to drain him heavily, so I told him to take a well needed break, sitting him down at a nearby rock as I discussed the move with him. "As said when we started the training," I began. "Earth is a very creative element, however, much of the basics goes through the idea of shaping it into spikes that range from a variety of small and thin to very wide and large. The spike represents a needle - it starts small and then suddenly destroys and pierces its victims, often making it hard to predict beforehand."
I then stood, taking a few steps back, distancing myself an appropriate distance from Mudo. "This next technique also introduces a new concept, known as balance. Vital in fights in order to keep your composure, especially in freeform, throwing someone off balance can also mean a significant advantage over them."
Following my words, I tapped the ground gently with a single foot. "Proceed to build up chakra into your foot and then release it wildly through the ground, causing a small tremor - a tremor strong enough to reach me and throw me off balance."

[Mudo]

*Following the much needed break given to me by my instructor I then watched as he positioned himself a certain distance away from me, asking that I send a small tremor with a enough strength to throw him off balance. "Sure!" I exclaimed, beginning by gathering doton chakra into my right foot. I then proceed to release the chakra once enough was gathered, sending it forward toward Kiritsugu-sensei, the tremor making it's way toward him at a quick pace. Once it had reached the earth below him, Kiritsugu-sensei began to lose his balance and after a short amount of time, falls into the ground. "What a great move to use if you want to interrupt the opponent from performing something!" said I.*

 

[Adachi]

"Precisely correct!" I responded with gusto. "Especially if your opponent is seeking to run up to you with intention to deliver some destructive close range Taijutsu attack, this can easily throw him off guard. However, remember that this move can only reach to mid range and that when you place your hand upon the ground, it makes you vulnerable for a short amount of time."
I nodded, half to Mudo, half to myself. "Well, I apologize for interrupting our session with such a question, but do you happen to have received experience in Suiton yet?"

*"Why yes, I do!" I responded, "Although I'm only up to C ranks."*

"That's good enough," I replied warm-heartedly. "I just need the basic concept of water here.
Proceed to form Earth chakra within your body, but when you release it from your mouth, add a layer of water chakra to it so it becomes "mud-like". Aim this at my clone."
I formed the Tiger handseal, placing a clone about mid range from Mudo. "Now, you see here, it is very vital that you focus on a certain area when releasing this. It is basically a thick slop of mud that has many uses...but I'll let you decide for yourself. Oh, and of course it has many uses."

 

[Mudo]

*I focus on the clone after hearing the instructions given to me and begin to gather my Doton chakra. After gathering enough I then begin to release it from my mouth however as it travels near my mouth I add a later of Suiton chakra over it in order to attain the mud like quality that Kiritsugu-sensei was looking for. Once this was done I then set my sights onto the shadow clone ahead of me, focusing on it's chest area in particular. As I launch the mud projectile toward the clone and it makes contact with it's chest, I realize something. Hearing the clone disperse shortly after I inquired; "Wait! so can this technique possibly be used to bind certain parts together as an adhesive? If aimed at the foot for example, would it stick the target's foot to the ground hindering their movement?"*

 

[Adachi]

"Bingo!" I responded enthusiastically. "Now, there are three main ways of using this, one that you mentioned, which is restricting their movements by aiming at the feet. However, one another way would be also to blind them, upon which you aim at their eyes. Lastly, an interesting way of using this would be block explosive tags, or even things such as a FTG (the Fourth Hokage's special kunai) in midair." I shrugged, but kept a strict eye on Mudo. "I do hope you remember all that."
With those words, I motioned him over to another area of the training grounds, motioning with a single hand at a cave nearby. "Now," I questioned him. "What do you know of caves and their structures? How were you to collapse one, and how might this prove beneficial in a fight?"

*"Caves and structures?" I inquired. "Well they can be used in battle to protect oneself, or to use as an example from a recent battle I had, where I was ascending upwards quickly into the air and my enemy formed a small cave like structure above me, in a attempt to use the speed of my own ascension to crush me with the roof of the cave, a very good move. As with all structures in general, to collapse them one must initiate enough stress to push them past their breaking point, causing fractures and deformations that eventually lead to the entire structure breaking apart. The antlion technique is an example of initiating structural deformity from within the earth below the target."*

 

[Adachi]

"An interesting response," I replied promptly. "Caves, or domes, are all helpful structures that comes in many sizes and shapes - however, unlike you said, they do not have to break through just applying pressure - all domes have a weakness, as there is nothing holding them up but their own shape. By finding perhaps a single rock, you could cause an entire structure to collapse onto your opponent. Keep that in mind when luring your opponent into caves."
I then shrugged, indicating the end of my speech as I created a Shadow Clone mid range from Mudo. With a single hand, I gestured the entire area before him, a good line and distance from the clone. "Mkay, much like the mudshot technique earlier," I told him. "Proceed to release a flow of earth chakra throughout the earth so that it surges towards my clone, throwing him off balance. Also, how might you think adding more Suiton chakra to this would affect the technique? Why is it important to knock your opponent off balance in a fight?"

Descripton: This technique allows the ninja to control nearby stone and rock. This can be especially useful if in a cave or a stone lodging. The technique can loosen the rocks and cause them to come raining down on whomever is trapped inside.

*I begin by facing towards the clone spawned mid range from me, thereafter performing the Tiger hand seal while simultaneously gathering my doton chakra. As I then begin to release it, I add just the right amount of suiton chakra as well to create a mud like substance that forms underneath the clone, a mud-like river that not only throws the clone off balance but pulls it away from me as well. "By adding more Suiton chakra into this technique the user can alter the viscosity of the mud, making it thicker with less suiton chakra or lighter with more." I said. "Furthermore, by throwing the target off balance one can follow up with a quick attack to catch them off guard and lessen the chance of them recovering from the move."*

"Perfect response," I replied promptly. "Anyways, we're not quite done with this combo. Proceed to form the handseals of Ram → Horse → Dragon in order and then send your chakra into the mud you just created and formulate a dragon out of it."
I glanced over at the mudslide he had created earlier, noting the desperate look on my clone's face as he tried to prevent himself from drowning. "The dragon should be able to spit mud at my clone. Aim them wherever you like to finish him off."

 

[Mudo]

*"Got it." I responded, turning towards the drowning clone I began by forming the hand seals Ram → Horse → Dragon while gathering up my Doton chakra. Soon after releasing the chakra into the mud created previously, using shape manipulation as well in order to form a dragon-like figure out of the mud. The dragon takes aim at the clone's chest area, unleashing a barrage of multiple mud clusters that all make contact with the clone. The clone then disperses with a "poof" noise.*

 

[Adachi]

Clapping to Mudo's effort, I watched as my clone dispersed as the mudballs made contact with it. "Good, however, remember how think a mudshot can be, including the pure mass of it (force = mass x acceleration)," I reviewed. "Also, don't forget that the speed of the river can be controlled as well, so you manage the amount of damage you induce upon your opponent."
Upon finishing my words, I took a few steps back, glancing around the vicinity. "Alright, for this next one..." Motioning for Mudo to make some distance, I created a clone long distance from him this time. "Send your chakra through the ground, and then cause huge rock pillars to rise from it, surrounding my clone together as it does so. Then, proceed to cage him by forming a prison with the rock pillars. Don't forget the offensive and defensive usages of this."

*As Adachi-sensei gives the final nod signalling me to begin I turn towards the clone, quickly gathering my Doton chakra. I then send the chakra through the ground, once under the target proceeding to use shape manipulation to cause mutiple rock pillars to rise around the clone forming an equal enclosed cone perimeter. The pillars are about two feet taller than the clone itself, and once they had fully formed I then focused my doton chakra on the already formed pillars surrounding the clone, causing smaller sharpened pillars to extend inside quickly where the clone was residing, piercing it multiple times in the chest, arm, and upper body area.*

I can do that right? The part with using shape manipulation to have the pillar walls branch out with smaller sharpened "spears" that attack from inside the enclosed area.

I believe so, as this is a very versatile jutsu.

"Excellent display as usual," I acknowledged. "Now, note how tall this jutsu is - much of Earth is actually defensive. We'll derive into more of that this next jutsu."
With a single hand, I motioned at the space before Mudo. "Alright, for this next one, build up earth chakra within your hands and proceed to slam the ground before you, creating a huge wall in front of you for defense. Think about what kind of attacks it can block against."
