Many things could have been worst,but that doesn't help the plot does it?I never expect Don Flamingo to make a great damage to Smoker at that point,Oda implies that those two(Smoker and Tashigi) will appear and help the strawhats in the future again.
As for the liking part,no I don't like Don Flamingo he is crazy on a stupid way which I dislike.

I am calm kiddo,but I just think that this couldn't happen due to many reasons,plus there are so many other bloody scenes in other mangas that actually happened and trust me,even Don Flamingo would envy those.

No way that it would be the bloodiest thing in manga history, that's a huge overestimation..
However it would be brutal and not suitable for One Piece and that's why he was stopped
