when you can just buy stuff. Buying stuff helps both you and the seller. You gain and also help put food on someone's table.

Well didn't God "donate" your existence?

I believe in capitalism too but it doesn't work out for everyone.

And donation is much better than taxation.

Firstly by donating do you mean sending money to organizations to help other people or donating to a homeless person on the street?

Secondly you said, "when you can just buy stuff. Buying stuff helps both you and the seller." If so how would buying a pair of clothes impact the life of a child without water in Africa? Maybe the seller does not like to donate. Therefore just buying stuff is not the better alternative to donating. Donating is and I quote, "give (money or goods) for a good cause, for example to a charity". It is not to help yourself or the seller although it may have some mental benefits on the human mind of the person who donated.

Well, if you're comparing between food and money, it's probably more productive to donate money.
People tend to give away food that is poorly kept or near expiring. The same food is also likely to lack proper nutrition and contribute to poor health (diabetes, high blood pressure, etc). Let the managers spend the money on what they need since they'll have the food assorted.

And you say for the same amount of money spent on buying cans for a food drive, donors can feed 20 times more families by providing cash as opposed to cans.
-
A lot of waste also occurs on the other side of the food-donation equation. Rosqueta observes that a surprisingly large proportion of food—as much as 50 percent—provided to needy families in basic boxes winds up going uneaten.
-
“If you’re looking to make the biggest impact with a donation, the best bet is to write a check,” says Ashley McCumber, CEO of Meals on Wheels of San Francisco.

Donate money instead of your sloppy leftovers.
