I may be mis-remembering here but I don't recall it saying he needed the Ope Ope fruit to get the national treasure, he wanted the ope ope fruit for immortality.

He says he knows about the national treasure, I think Mariejois's national treasure is the truth about what happened during the Void Century. Doffy knows what it is because his family was a part of it and if he told it, it would take down the WG like a weapon would. Idk though please refresh my memory, what chapters was this all discussed and I will look it over again.
