I think lee would have had to throw it faster than gai was going.
Since lee is farther away from the point where the kunai stopped than gai was, that means that it had to travel farther in the same amount of time. So it was going faster.

I thought it only works for taijutsu since it redirects all chakra to a certain spot therefore can only enhance physical jutsus.

Ninjutsu is using chakra to be able to materialize something like earth,, water, etc. Therefore the 8th gates cant enhance that.

Genjutsu is an illusion which sends the victim inside their minds. So 8 gates doesnt really work there.

Learn physics. Anybody can do that.
Doesnt matter how fast the object is going, if you know the direction, you can estimate wwhereyou have to be to get in and out of its way.

Think of a bullet train. You can cross the tracks unscathed if you know the distance of the train vs to you. If your too close to the train, you have a higher chance of getting run over.

The direction of Guys heading is perpendicular to where the kunai was thrown. It wasnt parallel to Guy. Therefore, the kunai doesnt have to be as fast or faster than guy in order to get Minato in front of Guy and teleport with the balls.
