Does the media make you afraid of white people with depression? Before you misconstrue this and make it a race war hear me out.

Everytime there's a white man(or kid) with depression on the news, we find out that a school has been shot up, or some bombs have gone off. That is sketchy as hell. I feel the same way as some people who are afraid of blacks in hoodies. People see a black guy in a hoodie and cross the street. I see a white dude lookin' crazy and I get up out of there. It's not entirely about race either. I see a black dude lookin' crazy and I'm getting up out of there equally as fast Lol.

Just a simple question. Does the media have you guys feeling this way too or what's up?

I like to think I judge everyone on an individual basis but there's just too many people to do that. I'm not going tosee a guy with a gun and run up and ask him how his day is. I'm going to run my ass on because I can assume he's about to do something bad.

OT: I don't watch the news because it's all a bunch of negative things or coverage on stories that will generate some sort of revenue. I don't want to fuel the negativity that most forms of media spews out.

Before this DOES turn into a flame war (not blaming you--there are just jerks in the base) the media loves stereotypes and will do ANYTHING for ammunition to fill their coffers & line their pockets.
Want to add juice to a crazy guy story? Give more story as to why he's crazy.
Wanna call a guy shady? Make up or point out a cliche/stereotype

Like Mysterious Man here I don't really trust the media--or anyone who enjoys their face in a camera, really. And they don't effect my views on people/things other than actual FACTS. That said, anyone else would have just as much, probably MORE, of an effect than the media on how I see certain things. When a journalist digs they throw dirt in your eyes--but we've got to look through it & spot out the FACTS.

Exactly why I see through stereotypes. Or rather, I don't pay them any mind. The only effect they have on me is occasional frustration originating from use in unfair judgement.

Well here in the UK 70% of news media is owned by Murdock. They were all secretly instructed to write nonsense about WMD in the build up to the Iraq war. Ofcourse now we know there were no such weapons. People just take news as revelation these days. The rebels in Syria that westerns were backing financially to dispose of Asad have now become the new Alqaeda. And now they are enemies...

It might make some people think that. I think people as a whole, especially the media, don't understand mental health. The media itself is a large sensationalist publication that blows everything out of proportion for ratings. Journalists are also notorious for being the bottom tier students in literature/English classes.

Now as for being afraid of whites having depression due to the news showing those that "shoot up a school",etc.
I don't know why people would be afraid. I've known a few white people that had depression but they never done anything to harm anyone.

Hell anyone of any race can go through depression.

If people fear something that they see on the news,it always makes me wonder how they continue living their life after watching a horror movie.


... No I wouldn't let a weakness in emotion ,such as fear, control how I live and who I should watch out for.
