Personally, the art quality matters to me when watching an anime series. If it doesn't look impressive or neat, I don't feel like wasting my time to watch, and usually at that point I would read the manga of the same series instead. This seems to be the case when a particular series I'm following has a 'bad' episode. For example, it was almost unbearable to sit through some episodes of Naruto with lackluster and messy animation, especially episode 167.

That said, I do watch older anime series from time to time if it interests me. I've watched Yu Yu Hakusho a fair number of times, even though the quality may not look as good as recent anime.

not really I've watched amazing animes with sub par animation and some crap animes with awesome animation it's all relative.
