[Discussion] Does Sword Art Online (anime) deviate from the LN?

Basically I'm asking if I need to read any of the first 4 novels which the anime covers or can I start from novel 5?

You can start from novel 5 if you have already watched the anime.


But in the anime ALFheim Online came from Fairy Dance, and Fairy Dance is actually much larger in the LN than it is in the anime.
I also hear that the novel itself is better than the anime, but I don't think it matters.

You can just start at volume 5, you aren't really missing out on anything.
