The guy left w/o taking much with him besides what's in his bag. He's also solitary, I doubt he'd bother to be honest.

The guy has the ability to teleport to Konoha any day he wants and never bothered to check on his own wife. If he can't check on or bother to talk to his own wife, why check on his kid?

Kishimoto will pull an explanation out of his sleeve for Sasuke to redeem his character in upcoming chapters. I don't think that he doesn't know, but I'm not going to deny that it is a possibility. I guess anything is possible with Sasuke at this point.
