For sure. He saved whole village by abandoning his child. Otherwise he would explode and konoha with him. Don't even start on that fool itachi ho valued some other people over his own clan. Itachi should be a poster face of immigration.

It was either he kill his family or they were going to die anyway and the whole village would have gotten dragged into a war. :|

Yup kill your family so that their doomed existence causes as few casualties as possible. And as a bonus he was even able to keep his little bro (who otherwise would have been slaughtered) alive.
