It depends. If you use it 24/7 without letting it rest, then it will surely overheat. But then again, the chances of overheat are pretty slim even if you use if for the whole day.

I play my PS4 from morning to night and put it in rest mode overnight. Haven't really turned it off completely since I first got it which was like 5 months ago.

I haven't had any overheating issues yet. So you are probably pretty safe from it overheating without some serious wear and tear.

If you never turn it off sure, any console or PC can overheat. Though through a 3 hour or whatever gaming session you should be fine.
