Does Naruto Understand Human Emotions?

In Naruto the last it was stated that Naruto can't tell the difference between the love of people and the love of food yet at the beginning Naruto pulled pranks so he could get the attention he never had since everyone hated him and in the land of waves arc Naruto made a hardened assasin like Zabuza cry after convincing him of Haku's dream and comforted Inari about his father's death and even said that it's okay to cry.Later Naruto says that he understands Gaara so well that it hurts and managed to changed Gaara from a bloodthirsty emo to a better person and all the things that Naruto went through just to save Sasuke to such an extent that Sasuke called Naruto his "one and only" and that if Sasuke killed Naruto he'd be all alone and how he helped free Kurama from hatred and not to mention how Naruto managed to change Nagato,Obito and Neji and convince them to walk a better path since he understood them and how Naruto managed to influence the shinobi alliance to bring down the god tree when Hashirama couldn't so I'll ask again does Naruto understand human emotion or have I just been reading his wrong?

Naruto always say he understands how someone is feeling though. But no he doesn't he's slow on the uptake.

.... Not everything is meant to be taken literally. That may have been a sarcastic joke by some frustrated character.( I haven't watched the movie but that's what it sounds like)
