Back in Part I, we saw Naruto in Konoha a lot; but in Shippuden, he rarely visits the place that he calls home and wants to be the hokage of. He only seems to go there shortly in between arcs, does he not spend enough time in his own village?

Let's look at how often he's in his own village.

-Gaara rescue arc: he gets home after training with Jiraiya for two years, and the next day he gets sent off on a mission to go help Gaara
-Sasuke and Sai arc: He comes home briefly, meets Sai, learns to hate him, and then heads off on a mission to meet with Sasori's spy
-Immortals arc: Naruto actually does spend some time here, but he's training the whole time trying to learn the Rasenshuriken
-Itachi Pursuit Arc: Naruto and his teammates all go out into the Land of Fire looking for Itachi so they can kidnap him and use him as bait for Sasuke, he was barely in Konoha at all
-Pain Arc: He comes back home for one or two days then goes to Mt Myoboku to train and learn senjutsu. He comes back after the village is already destroyed and fights Pain
-5 Kage Summit Arc: He goes to plead with the raikage to not kill sauce, then stays with yamato and kakashi in an inn. Later meets Sasuke somewhere in the Land of Iron by that bridge. He went back to Konoha briefly but was only there for a day or two before he leaves for Turtle Island
-Confining the Jinchuuriki Arc, and any arcs past that: He wasn't in Konoha at all

It's weird that Naruto feels such an attachment to the place but is never really there at all

He's a busy man, he's still young so he can venture out on missions and much more time passed between missions so he wasn't in Konoha for a day or two then leaves on another mission; he would be there for days to weeks before going on another mission but the manga speeds time up to get on with the story. They do get hurt on some of the missions and have to rest for a while to heal, like Kakashi being in the hospital after overusing Kamui, Sakura getting hurt by 4 tails Naruto, Naruto hurting his arm from using FRS while Kakashi is pretty beaten up. Naruto going to turtle island wasn't just the next day, he was in the village for a couple of days while Tsunade got caught up on the situation and talked to the other Kages and agreed where Naruto and Bee will be taken as well as talk about how many ninjas can fight as some have to stay in the village to protect the people during the war, while also talking about food rations and weapons that can be given to the alliance usage. Naruto was out of Konoha for about 3 years out of his 17 years living there so that's not that big of an issue.

Anyways you can still not be in the village and want to become Hokage, Naruto was on missions given to him by the Hokage for the most part and he have been there to protect the village. What's insane is Sasuke being a missing ninja (which is punishable by death/ seen as a criminal to the village you left), to joining Orochimaru who commited many crimes in Konoha and is a international criminal since he was in Akatsuki, to joining Akatsuki and becoming a international criminal who wants to destroy Konoha and now thinks he can become Hokage. I rather Sasuke stay evil since he had character development that lead down a dark path.

So?
He still lives there, has his best friends there, does everything for its well being and wants to rule the place some day.
The level of attachment can't be measured by the number of hours he spent there. Konoha isn't his girlfriend Lol

He wears the headband blah blah blah his ninja motto. He is a leaf shinobi regardless of his location.
