What? I think you guys are confused. The topic creator isn't asking if the actions of the "bad guys" are justified, aka, "do they have a legitimate reason for doing this"; he is asking if they can actually be classified as villains given their intentions.

No, every antagonist is a carbon-copy, "I just want peace", and it's rather stale. Even Orochimaru has basically been revamped at this point.

I'm pretty sure he is, Jiraiya thinks that's the reason

He always thought Oro acted different after the incident. His teammate would know best. Although Oros actions just make me believe he just wants to be this way.

Yea that's pretty much as close as you'll get to a villan in naruto even kenpachi from bleach is more of a villan than them and he's supposed to be a good guy

Pretty much. Though I don't mind it too much, I like the ideals behind the antagonists we get in the story so I don't really mind the fact that they're not genuine villains.

this is a great point. I've often pondered this. That being said, you've infringed on my thought property and will be hearing from my lawyer. Obito and madara and kabutops and gato and all of them wanted nothing but peace

It's Hinata. She's going to turn into the next Tobi if Naruto friendzones her one more time.

Orochimaru is only like this because his parents died to young for his taste and he wants to make life longer while knowing all jutsu. Madara wants world peace. The same with pain.
And by villian I mean someone who just wants death and destruction for no reason. Just for the lols

I'm beginning to think Naruto is going to end up with something like "the only real villain was ourselves". I certainly hope not, but it seems to be heading the direction.

What naruto portrays is the real life situation in the world. The Ninjas / hidden villages are the armies of each nation and the feudal lords are the politicians / rulers of the nations. As each nation has its own definition of peace and and means of achieving it, here each character has his own notion of peace and way of achieving it. Hashirama's way , Madara's way, Orichimaro's way, USA's way, UK's way, Islam's way, Russia's way. It seems there are no true villians as every nation / leader has a reason why he fights backed by his suffering. But none of the reasons vouch for killing of people.
As Danzo and many of the leaders/ Kages killed many, in the name of village, we too are killing many all around the world in the name of nation / language / religion.
Orichimaru and Second hokage are the examples of bioterrorism / bio warfare research.
As we sympathies these characters, we need to look out in world see everybodies suffering and see every body is a victim.
the lesson of Naruto is FORGIVENESS, to save the nations / earth.

I mean he also has saved the 5 kage and Sasuke. He is retcon good until we see something evil lately.

Juugo keeps wonder what his motives are, I think he does that for a reason, somehow I don't think its charity.

The closest thing to that type of villian youre talking about would be pt 1 gaara. That guy was just a bloodthirsty killing machine who wanted to kill anyone for fun.
