[Discussion] Does Luffy have to die?

Do you think Luffy has/will die at the end of the series? I think it is inevitable that he will die to open the new era of pirates. At the same time I don't want him dying too, it will obviously be the saddest death in One Piece and even anime history, knowing how Oda handle deaths.

I know we can't come up with a decent prediction considering how we still have another 8-10 years of one piece but I couldn't stop thinking about when Ivankov shortened Luffy's life.

It would be a beautiful ending seeing all the people and the crew gathered to watch their captain and the pirate king, die like he live with a smile on his face, while know the freest man on the sea, chose to die this way.

ivankov gave him 2 treatments which took 20 away all the fighting hes done and second gear its going to kill him and it sucks to say but we will see luffys death at the end of one piece
