Does it get more action packed?

Also there hasnt been much fighting at all, maybe 1 fight. Gon and Leorio vs Hisoka. No abilities or fighting styles have been shown yet?

It gets way better in future arcs after Gon and Killua find the 'chakra' from HxH (hope this isn't considered a spoiler o-o).

In the arc that you're on there are a few fights at the end but they won't be with techniques, which is what you wanted I'm guessing.
The battles with abilities come later in the 3rd arc.

Yes, Hunter x Hunter starts off with the very generic story about a boy going on a little adventure. Later on, it gets to people getting their limbs cut off, city busting nukes, and a 100 armed Buddha.
