Does hero need to be SERIOUS?

Ok, sometimes i dont even get it. Does it even critical to have serious attitude AT ALL TIME for being a heroic stature? Does it means that if someone that have a jovial attitude cannot be relied upon? IMO, a balanced type of hero should have both side of life, serious and happy-go-lucky type. So, dont judge character by their goofness i say, but from their main contribution to the ninjakind of NV.
