Hashi wouldn't have killed Tobirama if tobi killed Madara. He prolly would've smacked him around a bit. You know how big bros do when lil bros do something stupid. Hashi would've been seen as a hypocrit If he'd sent a truce then killed the leader of the Uchiha. Madaras death would have caused more fighting and most likely more Uchiha with mongekyou sharingans. Tobirama thinks like a tyrant, a communist. Tobiramas EDO tensei is to blame for the fourth war

Hashiramas' relationship with Madara should have been dealt with a long time ago. Tobirama understand that Madara should be eliminated in order to obtain peace. Hashirama is being naive. If you look at this page, Hashirama even threatened Tobirama by telling him not to touch one hair of Madara or else....

Do you think he would have killed Tobirama on the spot had Tobirama proceeded to kill Madara? Seriously blood should be thicker than water.

I hate to say this but Hashirama might be the stronger Senju, but Tobirama is clearly the better leader since he knows when to make the hard decisions. Well this is just my opinion....

Ironically that bold part is more directed to friendship than family. Good job answering your own question.

I was saying that Hashirama is not applying this quote and is chosing Madara(water) over his brother(his blood).

So asking his brother not to interfere is 'choosing over' or rather condemning to death by your tone? . . . . . Hashirama was the Leader of the Clan, Tobi should not have screamed at Hashirama in the first place.

But Madara won't stop killing Senjus until the end, he already refused truce to make peace with Hashirama, and other Uchiha don't support him anymore. I think it will be justified if he dies in battle like a true warrior, not constantly letting him live hoping that he will change or out of pity.

Tobirama is clearly disappointed because they now have a chance to eliminate the terrorist leader and end all the sufferings imposed to both the Senju and Uchiha clan. Hashirama should understand that sparing Madara would mean the war and power struggle has to go on and more deaths needed to be sacrificed. His quick temper and over protective response clearly shows that he is choosing Madara over peace and thereby opposing his clansmen including his brother.

Tobirama isn't the better leader, nor is he worse. Tobirama was alot like Danzo. He loved his clan and his brother. They simply have different ideals on how to achieve peace. Tobirama's answer is to wipe out the leader.

But those of you who agree he should have killed Madara there assume that this would have prevented the 4th war. Maybe this is true, or maybe someone else might have taken up fight against the Senju.

Think about it. Say Hashirama listened to his brother and let him kill Madara. This could have sent ripples throughout the other clans. The Senju have been seen as betrayers and the other clans, including the Uzumaki clan might have joined forces to wipe the Senju out instead.

Killing your opponent to bring peace is easy and often a short term solution. Turning your enemy into an allay is much harder, but can obtain a longer period of peace. Hashirama knew this. Plus Madara is his best friend. Would rather let your brother kill your best friend right then and there or would you try to persuade your friend to see reason?

You think if Madara was killed the War would suddenly End? Hundreds of Uchiha and Senju and their leaders died after the So6Ps but none's death brought 'peace' . . . . Also Hashirama was trying to persuade Madara for a ceasefire and as Hashi said would killing their leader make the Uchiha accept their peace proposal?

wrong interpretation of the quote.
The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb.

blood:the covenant His bond with madara. The blood is basically from fighting. Friends bathed in blood from war (this was more of a quote from fighters)

water: The water of the womb. BAsically his mother. Hence, his family.

That's the correct quote. And yes that's most likely what's going on here anyway. Hashi hold's madara's bond in very high regard as they're both war children. Madara is more like hashirama. Hashi found someone like him in madara, unlike tobirama.
I don't know, but given madara or tobirama, it's possible that hashirama would choose madara.
In any case, in this situation ,madara was just trying to act tough. It was just a threat to bring across his seriousness. When push comes to shove, he probably would have done nothing to tobirama except a gut punch

you must understand that hashirama spent alot of time with madara. he knows how madara is deep down. madara isn't even close to being a terrorist leader. somewhere along the line he lost his way, probably do to brain washing.

You'll say he's not brain washed because you'll take brain washing literally, but i mean suble brain washing. just hearing your parents say they hate senju is enough to plant a seed of unnecessary hate. that's subtle brain washing/enviromental factors molding development.

Hashirama sees good in madara. he doesn't want to just kill madara.

That is a different quote. The normal quote assumes that blood is family since family members have the same blood running through their veins. Water is bonds formed through friendship. Blood being thicker than water implies that family members has more value or precedence over friends.
It was also tobiramas desire to acquire peace, he even discussed with hashirama and itama that if shonobis are able to understand one another, then peace will be able to become reality. The way I see it is that Tobirama just takes the realistic while Hashirama takes the idealistic approach, which can seen as naivety sometimes.

How would water remotely make sense? Blood sure. But what relationship would water have to friends? hmm...
That quote was derived from the one i said. It was shortened and misinterpreted because of that. Most people think what you're saying, but that's not the true quote. That's just a newer one that came from confusion of the first. Water makes no sense in the second.

OT: Yes, I remember tobirama said that. But hashirama started to really bond with madara. i think he had a stronger bond with madara. They both sat ontop of the mountain invisioning their goals. They sparred and trained together. Remember they've said that ninjas of similar skill can read each other's true thoughts through their fists.
I just believe that hashirama may have grown a stronger bond with madara. There's no real proof that he's sat down and spoken to madara about the future more than tobirama. But all he, tobirama and itama talked about was that grown ups are stupid and the only way to stop the fighting was for peace. Whereas he and madara started to picture it. Speak about it and enjoy. I don't know but I'm just thinking he just felt closer to madara
