Then you just have the type of metabolism that keeps you from gaining weight. Dangerous on the long run though.

A single can of soda contains the equivalent of 10 teaspoons of sugar. This amount of sugar, especially in liquid form, skyrockets the blood sugar and causes an insulin reaction in the body. Over time, this can lead to diabetes or insulin resistance, not to mention weight gain and other health problems. Soft drink companies are the largest user of sugar in the country.
Soda contains phosphoric acid, which interferes with the body’s ability to absorb calcium and can lead to osteoporosis, cavities and bone softening. Phosphoric Acid also interacts with stomach acid, slowing digestion and blocking nutrient absorption.
In diet sodas, aspartame is used as a substitute for sugar, and can actually be more harmful. It has been linked to almost a hundred different health problems including seizures, multiple sclerosis, brain tumors, diabetes, and emotional disorders. It converts to methanol at warm temperatures and methanol breaks down to formaldehyde and formic acid. Diet sodas also increase the risk of metabolic syndrome, which causes belly fat, high blood sugar and raised cholesterol.
Most sodas contain caffeine, which has been linked to certain cancers, breast lumps, irregular heart beat, high blood pressure, and other problems.
The water used in soda is just simple tap water and can contain chemicals like chlorine, fluoride and traces of heavy metals.
Harvard researchers have recently positively linked soft drinks to obesity. The study found that 12 year olds who drank soda were more likely to be obese than those who didn’t, and for each serving of soda consumed daily, the risk of obesity increased 1.6 times.
Sodas contain High Fructose Corn Syrup, which obviously comes from corn. Most of this corn has been genetically modified, and there are no long term studies showing the safety of genetically modified crops, as genetic modification of crops has only been around since the 1990s. Also, the process of making High Fructose Corn Syrup involves traces of mercury, which causes a variety of long term health problems.
There is absolutely no nutritional value in soda whatsoever. Not only are there many harmful effects of soda, but there are not even any positive benefits to outweigh them. Soda is an unnatural substance that harms the body.
Because of the high sugar, sodium and caffeine content in soda, it dehydrates the body and over a long period of time can cause chronic dehydration.
Drinking soda regularly causes plaque to build up on the teeth and can lead to cavities and gum disease.

you are not gaining weight because you have got high metabolism..
but once you cross your 'youth age' you will start noticing it.

dont drink too much soft drinks..after all that gas is carbon dioxide..that is harmful in lot of ways..

Yeah and it rots your teeth.

I have a high metabolism and I don't see the effect of it making me fat. I eat a lot of fast foods too and I'm still skinny. Anyways I should stop this habit xd :p

Yes, I believe it's because of the calories in it. Usually 180, I think.
Calories is highly deceptive. A calorie is "is the amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of one kilogram of water by one degree Celsius". Our bodies do not set food on fire it converts it chemically into chemical energy. You can have something that doesn't burn yet our body can deconstruct and use for energy. With normal food a calorie is a good indicator as most organic food burns but with all of this artificial food they are able to modify chemicals so it doesn't burn and passes as a 0 to the calorie counter. Our FDA doesn't care to fix this little problem either.

You get fat from Soda because it gives you sugar highs. HFCS can be absorbed as soon as it hits your intestinal tract so you get a massive sugar high, sugar takes some processing before it can be absorbed so its not near as bad. You injest a lot of sugar all at once and your body cannot use all of it at that time. So anything that it cannot use is absorbed into fat cells. Then your body waits for the next sugar high and repeats the process, it won't burn fat if it knows it will get sugar soon. Your body eventually gets used to the sugar highs and that becomes your 'norm' then you become this:

I don't think CO2 is really a problem because the amount of CO2 in carbonated soft drinks is minute (when you open a can, a lot of C02(g) escapes). Drinking the remaining aqueous CO2 causes a change in the pH of blood and thus affects enzyme functioning. However, our body has a very special buffer system that can counter large changes in pH levels and hence achieve homeostasis. So really that shouldn't be a great concern when you drink these type of soft drinks.

OT: Yes, drinking coke can make you fat. Coke is high in sugar and basically if you drink coke, your blood glucose levels will rise until it reaches a certain stage where the level is too high and your body has to store that glucose in the form of lipid (fat). As long as you use sugar (a source of energy) by the means of exercise, you will be fine. Just don't drink too much, though.
