It can be overwhelming at first, but you get use to it. Especially when you read a lot of other different types of manga. It grows on you after awhile.

I know senpai is also used by students but I meant someone in the same field as you (be it school or work)

True, senpai is also used at work. Thought I would just add a bit more to your post
I believe they also have -hime, for princess, but that isn't used a lot either.

when you get used to it i think it makes it all the better. but if i have to hate a part of it, then it would be the alphabet.
sometimes it can be frustrating not to be able to read all the hiragana and kanji. it could be cool if they could do translation for signs in the scanlations.

Senpai can also be used in school and that is then a person who is in a higher year. Kohai is the opposite - a student who is younger/in a lower year.

You also have -san, which is neutral. It can be used for people you don't know very well or don't know at all. It's polite, but neutral.

-Dono is an outdated term and is practically not in use anymore. If I remember correctly it was mostly used by samurai when they spoke about their master.
