[Discussion] Does a katana need to have a curved blade to be considered one?

I received a sword a few days ago and I'm pretty sure it is one (maybe i'm wrong) However I've seen online and stuff that katana's are always curved U_U

That looks more like a tanto (Japanese shortsword) than a katana.

Looks like a Ninjato and also that sheath is suspiciously not like Katana sheaths ...... Also Katana's always have slightly curved blades

Katana have curved blades. That looks like Sasuke's Chokuto, a straight Katana, or a Ninjato.

yeah, that is certainly a Ninjato, the shorter variant of a katana which was often used by ninja.

well i use it to slice up my watermelons and chicken

That certainly looks like a ninjato, the katana's blade is slightly curved ....good luck slicing up dem chickens and watermelons.
