Guy Sensei would have been able to defeat the Deva Pain when he attacked the village. Especially after knowing the power that the 8 Gates grant. There has to be a reason why Kishi decided to send Guy and his team on a mission during the attack. I guess Kishi didn't want Guy to confront the Deva Pain on a one on one battle. I'm not saying Guy would obliterate the Deva Pain but with his speed and strength and with the other ninjas distracting the other Pains I'm guessing he could have barely won.

Deva Pain can't push him away as fast as Gai can approach him. And Gai can prolly resist the push like kyuubi mode Naruto did.
But It would cost Gai's life to go 8 gates.

Thanks I should have said 7th Gate Guy. Not in 8 Gates people because it's pretty obvious he would demolish Pain and Sage Naruto at the same time.

8th Gates Gai would have demolished all the Pain's + Nagato + Konan if he was there and if it was a 1v8 fight.
And yes, that may be the reason why Kishimoto had him outside Konoha during the attack.

Pretty much what all has said here... Indeed, Guy would fare quite well against Pain in the gates, especially the 8th gate, IF it ever got to that point... But like the other guy above me said, Guy just wasn't supposed to be the one to end Pain, so if he did fought him, Guy would've jobbed to Pain, in order to put him over, so that Naruto would defeat him.

Yes, but he'll have some trouble trying to hit Obito for 5 minutes. If Guy lasts longer than 5 minute with 8th Gates, then he may be able to hit Obito and destroy him with one hit.
