[Discussion] Do you think war is necessary?

So in many modern discussions we talk about the need for guns being in the hands of private citizens. But one argument that sometimes gets coupled in with that discussion is the title: Is war necessary or maybe even useful? Now for thousands of years people with different ideaologies/political systems/skin color/etc. havewarred against each other for what is "right", but is it necessary in today's world?

Would an invasion of an entire region truly stop terrorism? Does building up WMDs stop other countries from using their own? Do we need to flex our figuritive chops to our siblings across the ocean?

I think war brings about conflict, conflict brings out a need to advance to come out on top of said conflict, advancements mean a future is in progress.

I dont thing citizens having weapon will lead to a 'war', but large scale conflicts are just a means of gaining more power, influence and money

What's the "Wrong thing?" Electing the wrong person? Putting the wrong person to death by accident? Being unable to feed your people?

Expanding their empire by occupying your country. I also think more people should have involved themselves to help the rebels fight the Syrian regime. Mybe you shouldn't act as a world police though destroying dictatorships etc but if they attack you, then you respond.

i personally dont think War is necessary peace should be the key to solving war like how would u want to sleep at night knowing that a loved one is out there fighting and they can get killed at any moment i see war as pointless and it does nothing except bring more hardship to people since a lot of stuff is destroyed

Then again, some people say Genghis Khan conquering asia led to good things so I don't know if you should always fight back. But it doesn't seem wise to turn the other cheek or go Ghandi on people when they force themselves on you.
But let's say there is an alien invasion, aliens from outer space wants to extreminate humans of course you wage war against them. There are also alliances in the world like NATO that says if one country gets attacked the others should respond. When Poland was invaded the UK moved into war against Germany. If people had not waged war against Hitler then perhaps every single person he identified as a jew or whatever would now be extinct.

Invloving yourselves in helping oppressed people fight against a regime can be helpful, but in the long run it can also be harmful. America has tried puppet nations before and history has shown that all it does is leave the now victors in a spot of dependency, because they didn't know what to do once they had won.

I don't understand this statement, mostly because I don't think this is what you meant hopefully. I mean I sleep pretty much every night knowing that, because it's something I've dealt with a long time. But does that make it unnecessary? Things get destroyed if you just let the bad guy do what he wants too.

Leading to good things? Should that always be the thought? "Well, something good has to come from this right? We'll continue our invassion just in case."

So it's necessary when we are going to be exterminated, but any other time? An Empire is occupying my land so I rebel agaisnt him? If he's in my land that means I didn't do anything to prevent him from getting there so maybe I should just let him have me, he can probably protect my nation better than me?

I don't think anything that results in the deaths of so many and the shattered lives of those families who have to cope with it is ever a necessary thing.

But if It's one thing I've learned about the world is that I know less than nothing about the world. Take that for what it's worth.

So should we create a cause for the people to rally behind? They thought the World War 1 (Called the Great War in that time) was the "War to End All Wars" but not 20 years later and another World War was started. People seem to think another one is on it's way, but what would be the cause then?
