Someone I know is engaged at 18.
She's been with the guy about a year and a half overall but they broke up for 6 months in this period and went out with another guy.
Then they got engaged when they got back together.

Do you think it's right for people so young, and after knowing each other for such a short period of time, to make such a commitment?

It's their personal choices. As long it doesn't harm anyone, it is fine.

I do not believe that they are ready to take on such a commitment, being so young. When they're older and have established lives for themselves, then it would be more appropriate to become engaged.

If they are serious, it's ok. Some people break up after several years, coz they realize they don't want to get married (yet). So time is not always the best measurement for commitment. But then marriages break up too. It's complicated ...

A year and a half is too short and 18 is young. I honestly dont think its right...but then again, I might be wrong because I dont know them.

Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards are the best example for this.

Don't worry, apparently most marriages end in divorces these days..........

But seriously, it's their life, and their choice. It depends on their maturity levels, and whether they are ready to take that next step.

Hmm depending on people, such a commitment could last if both of them show enough dedication towards each others.
But keeping in mind that they broke up for 6 months and she was with another guy.
I don't think its a good idea to do it so soon but that's just me.

That's sad but doesn't really harm anyone. At the end of day its on them and i'm no one to judge, so i guess its whatever >_>
I don't encourage that behaviour, but each of us has a different view on relationships and handles them in different ways.

If i was that girl's dad the situation would be different of course U_U

When people is young , there is possibility for them to make wrong choices specially on relationships , it's been said , it's not age or things like that make a relationship successful in the long run , it's to grow together and walk in a better direction that make them successful together .

Sometimes, 18 months are more than enough for two people to know how much they like the other one.

No. I mean, I wouldn't do it, but if others want to, that's cool I guess. Their lives, you know?

My cousin got married recently. She's like 20, so that's sorta young, but he bigger issue was she was only dating the guy for less than a month. I thought that was really stupid.
