Parenting is one of the hardest things to do (the fact that many people do it does not change the fact that it is hard) yet there is almost little to no quality needed for legally being one. Any human who can breed can be "parent". But then we have news of child abuse or kids who die because of being neglected. Should there be some sort of tests to measure mental health and overall decency of human to give them right to be parents? All we have is some social services who make half-assed jobs and unhappy kids taken to orphanages if they are lucky.

We need driving licences to drive cars. Whole parenting thing is like handing people cars before license and saying "lets see how will you do it. If you crash we take your car".

What type of policies exist in your country for parenting issues?

Yes, parenting licence should be enforced into society.

What would have happened if only rich people were allowed to have kids?

That's tricky ._. And unconstitutional. Noone but the parents and direct family should be the guardians of the child. Doesn't the thought of authorities having legal ownership of you children scare you? I mean, there were social workers who sexually abused people's children. Social workers that had their trust. I don't want a pedophile govt influencing my child without my say ^_^

And I don't think that 'test' would be usefull as a slickback child abuser could easily slither his/her way through the test, right? xd

But all this does not apply to parents that have been proven to be abusive towards their child(ren). Take 'em away and try to find decent parents. Like I said. Tricky.

And concerning giving birth to one. My motto is; if you're poor and incapable of raising your child without having to resort to intimidation and slight violence to get your spouse in line, you shouldn't reproduce. I stand by that but I wouldn't want to enforce it on people.

You are the reason why the world will get ****ed, why the **** would you leave your child to the government? that's even worse than having a parent who does shit like that.

Difficult question. The easy answer is that there should be a license for it: it's a lot more important than doing someone's taxes or cutting their hair, both of which are licensed professions in my country/state.

The challenging part is that people can't agree on the best parenting methods or discipline techniques, so a consensus would never be reached.

When it comes down to it, though, parenting is about being a decent human being. It's about teaching your child through your actions as well as your rules. It's about being available when somebody needs you, about keeping your mouth shut when you feel like yelling, and about never taking your family for granted. All the rest is details that would get lost in the letter of the law.

All these suggestions would kill humanity, no. If you can't be a parent give the kid to someone who can and make that kid's life amazing. That's that.

Uhh... No? Because I am a good parent, even though I am not one.
