Do you think the Rinnegan master is still alive?

As we've seen before Madara was introduced bit by bit in the manga. And next thing we know Tobi is Madara. Now, the same thing is happening. Kishi is showing the original Rinnegan user slowly (1-2 frames each chapter sometimes) . It might be Pain is just a prelude to this stronger villain. This, in my opinion, is another villain that Kishi is building up. What do you guys think?
