Of course this war was the stepping stone for that, the five Kages working together to defeat an opponent has never been done before. There is no reason for the nation's to be at war anymore.

Realistically peace can't last forever. However this is a fantasy world and Kishi can make peace last forever, especially since it is Naruto's goal to end hatred. I can foresee a unified country after the war.
