If you think think that pirates have a problem with cheating to get what they want you haven't been paying attention. You're argument of go reread the manga means nothing when Luffy in the current arc launched a surprise attack, with an inside man who knew how to disable her defense, with poisonous weapons in order to avoid a fight of strength. He didn't really have a problem with that.
If Luffy was such a stand-up and noble guy he should've requested a 1 v 1 with Big Mom. The message in this manga has been multiple times "You can't trust a pirate", technically they're not even on the good side of the law. So if anyone should reread it's you.
