What I mean is, do I like Batman Begins because the movie subconscieously sends a certain politicla message that I happen to agree with?

Are all the critics out there praising a certain piece of entertainment depending on what ideas are reflected or not reflected?

Is it even possible to objectively determine if something is good or bad in taste?

critics praise things for more than just concept. like you can have an album that conceptually is a great idea. but in execution the songs just arent really that great together for various reasons or doesnt really appeal to the editors at whatever blog for whatever. collective conscious plays a part in all art and whats received well by a generation, including critics. so if youre in 2020 making music like for instance....

that would collectively be in bad taste because the collective values arent the same as that generation thematically and the music isnt really the vibe a lot of people are tuned into, even recently Lana Del Ray gets heat for her music portraying women in to submissive of a role, the less she does this, the better her music has been received collectively. if a blog like CoS praised this, theyd be cancelled and seen as misogynistic. doesnt mean there arent people making songs like this currently somewhere in a basement. but it most likely wont resonate with a lot of people in this generation because its too far outside of the collective consciousness

but all art is subjective. thats why personally as a music artist i dont pay attention to what critics say or have said about my work. i mean its cool when they like youre stuff. but a lot of the time theyre wrong, like theres tons of stuff that initially got average or low ratings. but then later they went back and changed the score because of the cultural impact it had. they can be very pretentious as well, like a lot of indie and experimental stuff they praise really high is pretentious and the artist is broke because its not selling well. but critics love it because its something different to try and write about, i like some of it because it can present unique ideas, even if not executed in the most effective way. but the people are the ones you want to please imo more than critics. critical praise wont pay your bills

sometimes though theyre dead on and they understood a timeless masterpiece during its time but thats rare. because you need time to tell if something is timeless. also sometimes theyre dead on when something is low quality, usually more in that realm. though Ed Sheeran is constantly shit on by critics but hes yearly the most played artist on streaming services so. his music is bland though i agree lol

im sure there are critics that liked Westworld and BvS because art is so subjective. i dont really keep up with film reviews at all personally, ive seen way too many boring ass critically acclaimed indie films. some good ones though...

but i get it, theyre tastemakers for their audience. but nobody can predict what will resonate with a lot of people, they try but theres a like magic too it. if they could, everyone artist would make hit songs, everyone would make box office smashes, write best selling novels, etc.. i think they can be useful though for artists and for consumers at looking at things more critically but at the end of the day, their opinion on something isnt better than yours, they just have good enough writing skills where they can get paid to express their thoughts. a lot of them are actually failed artists, ive met a lot of editors for music blogs at festivals and most of them tried to have a music career and it didnt work out. ive even met some that arent even big fans of music and are just writers that want to be paid for writing. so i dont invest too much in their opinions but i consider them
