What IT MEANS to be a true shinobi?

His beliefs firmly lie in the mastery of Ninjutsu, it's what he lives his life by, it's what his entire life's aspiration has been....to learn and master all the jutsu of the shinobi world. For that reason he extends his life by irregular means, the Immortality jutsu, there is nothing that bothers him more than the fragility and vulnerability of humans and the weakness of old age. One can say, that is his greatest despair.

To Orochimaru, Ninjutsu is what makes a Ninja. Emotions and attachments mean absolutely nothing, they are a weakness, and all weaknesses must be shunned.

As Sarutobi schooled him while taking away his arms, all he could think about was hurting Hiruzen in some way, cursing him the entire time, he failed to learn anything from his former Sensei.

As Jiraiya was telling him something similar, by showing him a shining example in Uzumaki Naruto right in front of his eyes, Orochimaru, who had previously deemed Naruto a failure compared to the Uchiha, Sasuke, was now fearful of the future threat he might pose and tried to finish him.

Years later Sasuke himself showed Orochimaru, that his cruel and unusual ways of acquiring power were only going to lead him to his own doom.

Now that he has been given another chance by Sasuke himself, do you think Orochimaru has realised any of these things? Is he the same old cruel and greedy individual who looks for nothing but his own gain?

Will he ever learn?

It is, and ours differs greatly.
Which is why the manga is so good. People can come up with their own opinion, regardless of the author. It's not all white and black (lol yes, I know the manga is black and white, unless colored pages...duh). To me, his 'villainess' is fun because he has yet to be used, unlike some of the greatest villains in Naturoverse. Unless I am forgetting something, of course. Not perfect :)

No. His mind has been corrupted by creeping on young Uchiha boys.
That too haha

Orochimaru was Danzo's pawn for a long time, you can say he was corrupted by him. The Senju cell "research and experiments", it's quite likely they were done at Danzo's behest, since he was the only one in Konoha with his own personal Hashirama on his shoulder.

I'd like to disagree. It was more of a mutual cooperation kind of thing, because they both gained something from it. In the other hand, what was Nagato going to gain from his being used by Obito? Nothing. And I still think Madara has no plans to go through with his and Obito's plan....so he is also using Obito. Plus, I am tired of all the redemptions. Though I was happy about Zabuza's redemption, it was a precursor for more to come. And then Kishi further redeems him (even sorta giving him hero status) by having the 4th Mizukage being controlled and Zabuza plotting to kill him...and then on Edo Tensei asking Kakashi to kill him again. Itachi: I always thought Kishi would redeem him but I never thought that he would pull the "never a villain to begin with" kind of thing. And the way things are going, the chances are Obito will be redeemed as well....basing this on his facial expressions and the fact that he has already compared himself to Naruto. If Oro loses his lust for knowledge, Oro will arguably be redeemed. It would suck. What's the point of redeeming all the villains? I doubt Madara will change. Again, all my opinion, not trying to say this is cannon or whateva.

Orochimaru was in Root, they have to swear loyalty to Danzo and follow his commands. Pain and Obito shared similar goals, that was the initiative, Pain and Konan were never his pawns, they only did what was best to forward their plans, Obito was the self proclaimed guide of the Rinnegan, that's why they believed him.
